William Gallas and Damien Duff have both been ruled out of the match at the Stade Louis II through fever, although the former's absence has been offset by the availability of John Terry.
Eidur Gudjohnsen will also make the trip after being rated doubtful, but losing Duff will be a major blow to Ranieri, with the Irishman in brilliant form since his return from injury.
His place his likely to be taken by Jesper Gronkjaer or Joe Cole, with Claude Makelele, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker completing the midfield.
Meanwhile, Lampard has called on his team-mates to continue their great away form in Europe this season.
The Blues have won six successive matches away from Stamford Bridge, including a 4-0 thrashing of Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico back in November.
"We're confident, have played very well away and it's important to go and score," the England international said.
"So I don't think we'll be going to Monaco to defend. It's an open competition and it would be a great achievement if we win it.
"I want medals and this could be a great starting point. If we get it then the amount of confidence it will give us for next season in terms of the league, which is a big aim, will be great."
Monaco will no doubt be on a high, having disposed of favourites Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
