View Full Version : Leeds, their season HAS fallen apart

Well, after that result its all over bar the shoutin for the high spending, never achieving Leeds. After everyone jumped on Liverpool's backs before the Arsenal draw, United win, Leicester win and Leeds win it will be intesting to hear what you think about the thugs from Leeds. Gerrard could have took on their midfield on his own. Played off the park by both Chelsea and us. And on top of all that were Liverpool boring?!!!!!!!!!!!! No.

Well they just defended for like about 60 or so minutes of the match, and then caught Leeds on the break for the 2nd, so that kind of defeats the object of your argument. Then Leeds were in tatters and the 3rd and 4th were inevitable, but that ain't the Leeds we saw earlier in the season, they were awful today!

how can you say that liverpool were lucky and that it was negative football when a 4-0 came about?
how can you say that liverpool were lucky and that it was negative football when a 4-0 came about?
First was lucky, 2nd offside, so they were lucky to get it. 3rd and 4th were sloppy from Leeds not lucky...
how can you say that liverpool were lucky and that it was negative football when a 4-0 came about?
totally agree. It's just unbelievable someof the things that ppl come out with.
We defended 4 60mins apparently , thats funny becasue we shud have had a penalty after 3 mins, we socrd after 16. Hamman hit a good free kick and woen shoud have scored before half time. Owen should have also scored after half tiem where martyn made a good safe. So we hardly did that much defending. I suppose we defended for the rest of the 30 mins aswell and got three lucky goals.

Can't say I didn't laugh at the result today?
It's not the first time to Leeds United that fallen in a Manchester United season, the same to your team, Crazyhorse1977
:) :) :) :) :)
Leeds were awful and played right into Liverpool's hands. The second goal killed them off and when the first goal went in, Leeds never really looked like scoring. Leeds do have injury problems but also have a lot of suspensions and that's their own fault. They should have a big enough squad to cope, especially as O'Leary has spent around 100 million.

leeds are awful. interesting to see the possesion yday. i bet we had a few shots more shots as well. Boring liverpool hey? Leeds season is over not that i am upset about that. Ha Ha. hopefully they will get battered by PSV and be out of the uefa cup.
O well they will have to spend another 100 mill

Money can buy no love.. lallaallaa (singing) :smwg
Or no championship.
Buyning Fowler was a good move, but O´L has bought strikers for over 10M£ for three consecutive years now!! (Briges, Viduka, Keane, Fowler) Even Barca doesn´t do that :eek

They should get Vinny Jones out from his acting career and be their PR manager!! :laugh Vinny Jones has good character roles and is an awesome actor. At the same time he has Leeds kind of spirit in him.
The other choice would be Geri Halliwell.

Goal after 16 was a bit lucky, own goal I'm sure ya know!!!
Owen shot was the only time Liverpool actually broke forward, all the rest of the time it was Leeds except they didn't do anything with the ball, they just had it, and everytime they tried to create an opening Liverpool cut it off cause they had so many men back.
2nd Liverpool goal came about cause Liverpool caught Leeds on the break after Leeds had piled everyone forward, classic counter attacking move. 3rd and 4th both came form poor play by Leeds and both were from set pieces, so I still can't see Liverpool as an attacking side to be honest, just took the chances which came their way.

yeh Liverpool played well but Leeds contributed to that by playing so badly. Leeds may bounce back and grab Champs League spot like they did last season from 13th to 4th in three months or sumthin, so dont count them out...
Jere Markus
Feb 5 2002, 09:55 AM
It´s going to be tough for Leeds, because even Chelsea has shown some surpricing (uncharecharistic) toughness and won games lately.. and Pool&Ncastle seem to be better than Leeds too.. then there are of course Arse&ManU who top Leeds..
But I´d rather see Leeds grab the spot than Chelsea or Pool!!
Fowler might bail Leeds out of the misery.

Leeds for the Intertoto?
Sounds daft, but it might be the route they'll have to take. Its no better than an outside chance of them getting in the Champions League now, and if they carry on performing as they have recently........
yeh i read that Leeds might have to use intertoto to qualify, it's dismal really, a team with their commitment and playing so badly over the last few games. i'm horrified :mad
they need to win every single game form now till the end of the season if they are gonna get the champins league spot.
If leeds don't qualify for the Champions League, how many of their so called star players will stay?
jimlad1981
Feb 6 2002, 08:28 AM
not many. risdale has already said that his top players will go. bye bye kewell viduka, and maybe ferdinand
Jere Markus
Feb 6 2002, 09:00 AM
I think Risdale is full of BS. He´s saying these things just to motivate the team. Like Sir Alex LIED he would retire - it was for the show only. Leeds is not selling ANYONE.. maybe Keane, Bridges or Johnson.. but not the starters. No way. I don´t trust Risdale.

Mark, r u mental?
U contradicted ureself. First we were crap and boring, then we played well! Get a grip. Sour grapes if you ask me. You seem to be on ure own if you dont recognise the counter attack as an accepted style of football. You see at Liverpool we buy players that fit into our system but not at United eh?
true, Veron is hopeless. Said Liverpool played well but their general style of play is defenseive, which ya can't deny, and Leeds were awful, which is true as well. I ain't the only one who hates ur style of play even sum of your own supporters do, and a lot of the media as well so its not like its only me is it???

Mark, you may not like our style of play, but its already beaten you twice this season. The Man U loving media (ie/ Mirror, Sun , Star- all quality papers) dont like it either. People that know football and are PAID to write about it in good papers dont criticise. How can they, its worked against most sides in the top six. Which is more than i can say about your style of play. I'm still waiting for you to beat us, Leeds or Arsenal. Ive said it before and i'll say it again. 3 points is everything!! :)
yeh indeed you have, but u see everything from an extremely pro Liverpool perspective which is understandable whereas I see it from more neutral ground in that when i see a team play I like to see them attack...
Jere Markus
Feb 8 2002, 10:21 AM
Hey Mark, please understand that many sides in England don´t have enough talent to adopt attacking game.. :no
And even win while doing so!
:laugh :)
I haven´t seen enough Pool games to judge them, all I heard was people tell they emphasize D. Of course an objective fan wants to see goals and it´s frustrating to follow a game with a defensive unit (Germany, Italy). Pool fan wants them to get 3 points. At the end Results count.
But if your team is good enough to win by attacking (and taking risks) then it´s superb entertainment. I still remember 1-0 Arsenal days - I was proud of ´em!! Now Arse is more attacking side and I still enjoy.. but they always finish #2. :sad
jimlad1981
Feb 8 2002, 03:40 PM
liverpool as i have said before play to their strengths anddo the other top teams. look how the top european sides win, by keeping clean sheets and playing on the counter attack. this siuts liverpool as proved by last season.
i dont care if we win1-0 every week if we win trophies. 10 years later on you wont see match reports just the result.

How was that Mark. 6-0. Boring? Even Rod Marsh said we were near perfect. You just cant keep saying it now. There were times when united have ground out 1-0 results. Leeds wont be financially screwed if they don't get Champions League. Ridsdale didn't say he would be selling his best players, he said he might have to consider selling fringe players. He means the likes of Mcphail, Jacob Burns, Duberry. Although once Bridges is fit again I'm sure we'll sell one of our 5 strikers. The money we'd get for selling the players I've just mentioned would make up for lack of Champions League and wouldn't effect the team.
Also I noticed someone had said that Leeds had bought 4 x £10million plus strikers in last 3 years. I think you'll find Bridges cost £5million and Viduka cost £6million and they are both worth alot more than that now. We could easily get £15million for Vidukes.
Trouble is its looks like we are going to struggle to get UEFA cup let alone Champions League.

Mcphail £3million
Duberry £3Million
Jacob Burns £500,000
Robbie Keane £10million
Total £16.5million
With Bridges fit again next season Leeds could sell them lot without really affecting the first team at all. Getting to the final of the Champions League only earns you about £15million and Leeds wouldnt budget for that anyway.
I honestly dont think Leeds have a problem financially. O'Leary has spent £80million but the squad he has now are worth much more than that. So I don't see that as spending its investing. Leeds bought Viduka for £6mill and he's now worth £15mill etc.

You can make a quality side with debt - look at Real.
Real was in serious financial crisis couple of years back,
because they spend tons of money (they still spend!) on
players. They were on the verge of bankruptcy, but
somehow found a way out. Now Reals finance is ok and
they are now (and even when they had financial trouble)
one of the best sides in the World.
I suppose Leeds is not even near crisis yet.

Feb 11 2002, 06:54 PM
i think i need to set a few things straight here - on behalf of my team i have a few things to say! Firstly, yeah ok Leeds are having a tough time at the moment - losing games, low confidence, playing badly, but can i remind you that its not the end of the world! remember Man U a few months ago?? they had a tough time and a poor run of games but they managed to pull it back and look at them now! every team has a poor run of games from time to time so don`t write us off yet!
secondly, yes Peter Ridsdale did say that if we do not qualify for Europe next season we will have to sell a few players to cope financially - however before u all get excited these will only be fringe players who play in the reserves or maybe do not always have a place in the first team etc - not valuable members of our squad - we maybe having a bad patch but we are not mad!!!!
and also you ask where the money comes from???? well the same place that other clubs get their money from - TV, Merchandise, Ticket prices etc... and also we had the £15 m from the champions league last season!
we have also sold players, although some of you have seemed not to notice!! - Matt Jones £3m, Huckerby £4, Molennar £1m, Hopkin and Haaland - but these have also been fringe players, and also players from the academy who were just breaking through to the first team - hackworth, evans, watson etc...we would be crazy to sell valuable members of our squad!!

Having spent the last ten minutes reading all the comments on this subject, let's look at the facts here. Leeds have had to spend £90 million or so just to compete with ManUtd and Arsenal and still need a couple more players (before the Man U glory boys start shouting, £28 million for Veron?). The money spent could easily be recouped by selling Ferdinand, Kewell, Viduka and Keane alone but of course this won't happen. Last season was beyond the expectations of most Leeds fans but there has been a hangover this season and I don't recall Leeds playing well for 90 minutes in one game. That said, the current slump in form has to be stopped asap. Lastly, the Gooners and Scousers can start crowing when they reach the semis of the Champions league.

Finge players? So, you'll be enlarging your squad?!!!! What was the point buying them. If you get the same amount of injuries as this season, you'll just be in the same position. I think maybe Kewell, Smith and a couple of others would be the ones to go. Maybe we should add O'leary's name to that list!! Oh, welsh wizard, we may not have reached the semi's of the Champions league but how many european cups has your team won? It's only a matter of time with maybe two more signings.

The last few weeks have been tough especially as my old man is a Cardiff fan. Promised several months ago to take a friend and his son to watch Leeds v Charlton as a birthday present but in view of the 12 hour round trip and crap performances of this season wish I had said nothing. Should have bought him a Pokemon or something! Tried to buy a video of Liverpool's UEFA cup campaign but they could only find 10 mins worth of highlights.

If we are all honest we would have done that to. However, he's only done it once and doesnt make a habit of beating people up in town centres whilst on a night out. Oh, i think you might find about 120 minutes of good football from the final, 90 minutes from Porto (h), Slovan Liberec (a), Roma home and away, Olympiakos both home and away. Happy? Crazyhorse - I live 60 miles from the nearest league team (Swansea). I support Leeds as they had the best side when I was younger. In addition, I'm travelling 680 mile round trip on Sunday to watch the game v Charlton (hardly a classic). Anyway, what's all this bollocks about only supporting the team where you live? Are all the players from there too? And the crap you talk about Leeds being a team of thugs, Nigel Martyn, Gary Kelly, Ian Harte, Rio (hasn't been booked this season) etc. As for the bookings, Robbie Keane had two for diving when they were clear cut penalties!
For what it's worth I'm six foot tall and played football for thirty years, which judging by some of the comments on this page, makes me in the minority. Finally good news for football fans, CEEFAX has got the contract for the remaining Liverpool games in the Champions League.

I bet this time last year Jim thought Robbie was one of Englands top strikers, remind me again what Liverpool fans called him, I remember God!
He moves to Leeds and suddenly he is crap!
Hypocrite.

he still is GOD when weraing a liverpool shirt, not a dirty leeds scum shirt.
I have thought he should have gone in the summer, he wasnt fitting into our style of play and therefore he needed to go for himself. pity he went to a club that is going to win fuck all again.
Ther is no sour grapes we have 2 better strikers in heskey and owen who r english, and know houllier has got anelka playing well so i dont mind what folwer does at leeds.
He will go to japan and S Korea but only as a sub.
BY the way your team is shiot and risdale has looked like a tosser this moring by agreeing that there is a verbal agreement with lazio about dacort, after yday saying ther wasnt> COCK

Jim yet again posts rubbish and lies.
Risdale never spoke to anyone yesterday, the quotes of a denial of transfer talk yesterday were from Bruno Satin, Dacourt's agent, and an unamed club official. Both denied that a deal had been struck, which it hadn't.
Peter Ridsdale spoke today, that there is a verbal agreement that Leeds will speak to Lazio, if Ollie wishes to leave Leeds. The player has said however that he does not want to leave Leeds.

I disagree, to get them in the wrong order means he has to think, I don't think he is capable. :laugh

Why in your view are Leeds fans the worse in the Premiership?
As soon as you are beaten in the most important game you have played this year, What do you do? You start criticising Leeds. Why? what have Leeds got to do with your own failings.
What shall I start doing? Leeds are not in the CL League next year, but never mind Leicester are getting relegated!
It does not make sense or is it because Leeds got to the CL semis last year and you haven't?

Enough crap about Leeds fans from the scousers. You call us the worst fans. So far the evidence of this is we sing songs about other teams fans and boo the odd player now and again. What I am about to type is in extremely bad taste but it must be said to put into context your childish rantings. Only one word - Heysel.
(apologies to the vast majority of fans on this site for that but the Scousers have very short and selective memories on these matters).
