I've so far heard three names down the grape vine but nobody who I know from Newcastle will tell me who made an illegal approach for Bernard. Spurs name has been mentioned as has Fulham and Liverpool who both came in with offers during xmas. So who you do reckon it is.

He can play left back or left midfield and is damn good player (nobody at Newcastle can work out why he doesn't play week in week out). Liverpool and Fulham both put in offers at xmas but they were rejected. His contract is up in the summer but being so young nobody is allowed to talk to the player until his contract is up. We have offered him a new contract which is being considered but some club has decided to go straight to the player and tried to lure him to there club. Bernard though told Bobby and the club has now been reported. If found guilty and if it was Liverpool again they would be in deep shit after the illegal approach for Zeige which has now landed them in court, of course it might not be them but like I said I've only heard the names of those 3 clubs.

thats why you got fined because you went through the agent and not through the club.

interesting to see who it was.
was told who it was today and all I'll say is it's not the first time and in my opinon if there going to do business like this then maybe the punishment should be to not allow them to buy players for a year maybe that will teach them. They went to the player and said they would double is wages next season if he signed. Glad to see Newcastle had already matched the wages this team offered though so as long as the lads loyal he will stay.

yep he's a great player already and still very young, with a bit more experience he will be fantastic.

Thought so. Wouldnt be us. The so called 'illegal' approach to Ziege was utter b**locks. He not his agent informed Liverpool. Therefore why hasnt he been fined, that d**k head of a M'boro chairman is just making a fool of himself. Maybe he's about to be declared bankrupt or something :laugh :razz :laugh

Apparantly we have spoke to WH but will not report to the FA. Decided not to take any further. The club did however issue a formal warning that should any club try again they will persue it. Rightly so.

Ziege was fined as well but Boro are going for your lot as Liverpool are a business and know the rules and if they break them they should be hit hard an £10,000 for Liverpool (or whatever it was) and a £2,000 fine for Zeige is not hitting them hard.

This will only happen if he gets good answers for the West Ham Chairman, if he doesn't then the FA will know the same day.

they can't just forget it, it's a big thing in football. Can you imagine a small club say York just for an example as they are short of cash. They have a top player who they know will get them out of there current division and up the leagues and help the club make money. A big club then comes in, doesn't bother talking to the club goes straight to the agent and says they want to the buy the player. That will no doubt unsettle the player and could end up losing the club a promotion place and a lot of extra cash. It's not right that clubs can do this and it should be stamped out by putting bans on transfers for clubs when they do it. Then they might finally learn to stick to the rules.

So we were the team then, getting you back for your attempts at nabbing Trevor Sinclair off us earlier on in the season methinks. Freddie Shephard has decided to take no action, probably due to the fact Bernard has either signed a new contract, or the club have agreed some sort of fee with another club. A few Geordie's on other boards really rate him, what do you lads reckon of the Frenchman?
I think the geordies here think pretty highly of him as well m8

never heard a bad word against Bernard as he is really good and most Geordies would prefer him on the left and Distin in the center. As for Sinclair we never once went to the player and it's only your lot that think we went to the papers. The fact is when Newcastle want a player they normally get him. We obviously didn't want him.

Take your head out the clouds mate,His agent had nothing to do with it,,He was Tapped by Liverpool FC and its representitives and thats why you were fined and thats also why Steve Gibson is taking the matter to the high court to get the rest of the money we are due.It doesnt matter how he was approached the simple matter of it all is you went to the player before you went to Boro FC,,,and thats whats illegal..

And take your heads out the clouds as well mate. Due to this one season you have automatically become the club every player dreams of signing for eh? What happened to Zenden coming to you (good job he didn't) and that Distin, can't even get in the PSG first team can he. :razz
newcastle gettin a bit above emselves hey!!! :)
matty
Apr 4 2002, 07:12 PM
Well Distin's got no future at PSG according to their boss which is great for us. He will join (99% certain) in the summer for £3.5m which I personally think is a bargain.
Also, nice to see some 'familiar faces' Bob and Chazza!
While it's easy to say 'we normally get our man' when we don't we keep it quiet. Approaches for Del Piero and Pires (a good few years back) and Saha were all made and failed. But I think that at the moment we would be a pretty attractive propostion to most players!

Nice one Matty mate.
From what I have seen of that Distin I've never really been impressed. Looks like a fine athlete but that doesn't make a top footballer.

I wasn't trying to make it sound like Newcastle were loved by everyone. What I was trying to say was that once a player talks to the Newcastle board it's very rare for the deal to fall through. The Zenden deal didn't fall through it was simply that the player wouldn't say a straight yes to the club so we went and got Robert instead. We got JJ despite Man U and Arsenal coming in with offers and we got Acuna because we spoke to him before Man U did and he just couldn't say no.
As for Distin, he has been a great player is it my fault the PSG manager is crazy and selling off all the teams good players (Robert, Distin, Ronaldino, Anelka to name but a few)
