Jaap Stam's agent has confirmed that Manchester City did make an unsuccessful enquiry for the former Manchester United defender two weeks ago.
Stam left Old Trafford for Lazio in August 2001 for £15million and today he has been heavily linked with a move back to Manchester with Kevin Keegan's men from Maine Road.
Ton van Dalen told TEAMtalk: "There have been enquiries but Jaap is not interested in returning to England.
"A couple of weeks ago Manchester City made an enquiry, but it was not from Kevin Keegan as I know him quite well.
"He is preferring Rome to Manchester and he is settled and does not want to move.
"If you have played for Manchester United you do not want to rush back to England.
"He is still not very happy with the way things went at United."
The Holland international had a bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson and he was immediately offloaded to Serie A giants Lazio. He then was banned from the game after testing positive for nandrolone, but is now back playing for the Rome-based club.

I read the same story on the Mirror website only the slant was more positive about Stam coming back to England, it said that he hated being in Italy and would love to go back to Manchester, Lazio still owe Utd a large proportion of his transfer fee and may want to offload him. Could imagine Fergusons face if Utd missed on the championship and Stam was playing down the road, Keegan would love it, he really would. :)

His suspension is nearly over, I doubt if he will come back.

His ban IS over. He played for Lazio at the weekend.

It would be a good move for Stam & City as i'm sure he could find a few drug dealers on Moss Side. :)

I read it too in the mirror today, personally I would think it would be great if Stam came back to Manchester, it would be great to see what the Manchester derby would be like, also I think Man City would have a better chance in the prem with a physical presence at the back like Stam
