View Full Version : Young Defender.....

One of United's most promising youngsters - England Under-16 international Steven Taylor - is being chased by Manchester United and Fulham.
Taylor has captained his country at schoolboy level and is rated one of the best young central defenders of his age in Europe.
The Magpies are set to reward his rapid progress with the offer of a professional contract at the end of the season.
But The Red Devils and Fulham are both also putting together tempting pay packages to try and tempt Taylor away from his hometown club.
The 16-year-old would seemingly have the world at his feet it he stayed with United, and the St James' Park faithful would be hugely disappointed to see the promising starlet move away without making a first-team appearance.
Taken from "teamtalk" (sorry :) )
Given our history when it comes to defence, we should hang on to this lad if he is as good as they say he is. I`m sure he`d rather play for us than MU or Fulham.

Surely? hmmm, not so sure. I don`t know the lad and how passionate he is. If he is in the Lee Clark mould then he`d rather play for NUFC than MU, despite MU status. Or, he might just wait and see who offers the best deal?

God I hope we finish above Manure now for that stupid comment. Shearer kind of summed it up to Fergy in 95: Fuck off Man U I want to play for the Toon.

Steve Tayler is a Geordie. Also, Clarance Acuna is Chilean, and he told Fergy where to go, when Manure tried to poach him....

Sorry, maybe I should have made it clear in my original post for those outside of the forum. The young lad is a local lad who maybe given his first contract by Newcastle. But, it is said, MU and Fulham are sniffing around and may hope to poach him with a contract first.

Well they're complete tossers then, Manu U can fuck off, cos they won't get close, and Fulham, don't make me laugh, back in Division 2 soon. Also, they can't sign him unless he's out of contract, and then they'd have to pay us whatever a tribunal awarded us... No such thing as a free transfer under the age of 23.... :)

Plus lets not forget it was taken from teamtalk without any quotes so it's probably bollocks :)
From the Evening Chronicle:
Newcastle United have signed one of the top young players in the country. The likes of Man Utd and Arsenal have been eying the 16 year old central defender (Steven Taylor), but he has accepted the offer of a scholarship from NUFC and had agreed to sign a 3year pro contract when he turns 17. He has captained the England under 16s and was awarded the player of the tournament in the Walkers Tournament in November.
The lad stated "Being a Geordie I am delighted my future is with my home-town team". " There has been alot of speculation about my future but this underlines my commitment to Newcastle United".
So there you go. Good to see the lad did sign. Another one for the future then (shame we didnt have him now!!!).

At last, I just hope the club don't scrimp on the Acadamy, and build one of the best in the country, to match the current team.... Howay, if Blackburn's is seen as being one of the best, then we should be looking to get one as good as, or better than that. Arse have the best, apparently,,,,
A team full of Geordies? OK, but we'll give Shay, Laurent, Nobby, Aaron, Sylvain, Craig honourary Geordie status....

There are loads of full pitches, indoor pitches, training facilities and it really will be the best you can get as there isn't that much you can add to a training academy

I can't wait! To think of the value of making an effort in getting young talented players in.... Carrick and the like, it's going to be brilliant, back to Barcelona of the North!
