PEORIA- Many of us wish our dreams could come true. But for one Peoria boy, that happened and more.
WMBD's Eugene Daniel tells about a boy who got an opportunity that changed his life forever.
Like many ten year old boys, Jose Salgado loves playing soccer, but most kids probably aren't as good.
On the soccer field, Jose is a master with the ball. He can catch it on his back, take off his shirt, put his shirt back on
and do push ups....all without letting the ball touch the ground.
"I like dribbling the ball. And scoring a lot of goals and be famous. A lot of people around you, surrounded. That's what I
like," said Jose.
"It was hard. Almost two times, he died. It was close," recalled Jose's dad, Jaime Salgado.
Almost nothing slows him down except for one thing. Jose suffers from a life-threatening disease that effects his blood
cells. Last month, that dream came true.
"I said i would love to. I would like to see him another day and play with him one day and I want to play like him one day,"

"He's a strong boy. He's very strong," said his mother, Angelica.
But Jose never lost his passion for soccer. He dreamed to be like his idol, international soccer star Lionel Messi.
"With celebrity wishes we don't have any control over when that will happen. And so the day came and four or five days after
they said okay. This wish is going to be granted. They took off for Barcelona," said Hector Martinez of the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation heard of Jose's dream and flew he and his family to meet his idol.
Make-A-Wish found out about Jose's dream last year. It took that long to make it a reality. Jose's father says it was an
emotional sight because he knew it was an opportunity he could not afford to give his son. The Salgado's say they do not have
much money. Jose's parents moved to Peoria more than a decade ago from Mexico. Jose has two brothers and a sister.
"He was so excited. I see in his eyes like angels burining inside his eys. Then it made me cry," said Jaime Salgado.
For Jaime, it was a moment of appreciation for all of the support he says his family received from the community. "He comes
home. It was a big experience for him. He was talking and talking about his trip," said his mother.
Jose spent a week in Barcelona. He returned with pictures and signed jerseys. He calls them memories that will last a

"You can see how it warms his heart and his eyes light up and he's just all the more empowered to pursue his dream to become
a great soccer player," said Martinez.
Jose say he still wants to be famous and sign autographs. Actually ,he gave a few autographed pictures to our WMBD news team.
But now this incredible 10 year old says he has a new dream. It's a dream he hopes will score with everyone.
"When i'm famous, I'm going to give money to the poor people, everybody. A lot of people. And the hospitals and the kids,"
said Jose.
He wants to make sure kids like him have the opportunity to play soccer and reach their dreams.
