There looks like there has been some good news for spurs to do with the first leg against Real Madrid.....

BBC..

Real Madrid trio to miss Tottenham match

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho says Cristiano Ronaldo will not play in the first-leg Champions League quarter-final tie against Tottenham next week.
The forward is struggling with a hamstring injury, while striker Karim Benzema has sustained a thigh problem and full-back Marcelo has sore ribs.
Mourinho said the trio will not be available until 9 April when his team play Athletic Bilbao.
"That is what the reports that the medical staff say," said Mourinho.
"If they were available they would play [against Sporting Gijon]. Saturday's match is more decisive than next week's against Tottenham because the latter is the best of two.
"If we don't win the first we still have a chance in the second

These 3 players being missing for Real Madrid give Spurs a better chance of getting a decent result over in Spain in the first leg

Or It's Jose F*cking with us. I'll see what gets announced on the day, plus it seems like Higuain is going to play, I'd rather play against Benzema then him!

Harry Redknapp expects Gareth Bale to be fit to face Real Madrid in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

Speaking at the Bernabeu this evening (Monday), the manager said Gareth should 'be fine' after overcoming a hamstring injury.

"He's going to train tonight and if he's okay, he will play," said Harry.

There was also good news on William Gallas in that the defender has made the trip out to Spain and will also train this evening. "We're hoping he's going to be fit."

However, Steven Pienaar hasn't made the trip because of a groin injury and Niko Kranjcar is a late doubt after picking up a foot injury against Wigan on Saturday.

Tom Huddlestone - back on the bench at Wigan - is in the squad but Alan Hutton (knee) Ledley King (groin), Jonathan Woodgate (groin), Younes Kaboul (thigh) and Wilson Palacios (knee) remain sidelined.

Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Heinze, Robben, Gago, Lassana Diarra, Marcelo, Higuain, Raul.

That ain't the same team boyo, and Spurs don't have Torres and Gerrard ole.

Cannavaro was teh lulz by then, heinze was fail, robben was a crock, gago young/average, lass lulz, marcelo was very hit and miss due to his age, hig was like benz is now, and raul was...we know what he was

And if you do get a result expect the same thing - "oh, Madrid played bad that night, Ronaldo wasn't fit, Higuain wasn't fit, Mourinho had a sniffle" etc.

Weve knocked Mourinho out of two CL semis.
In winning the away leg - Gerrard never played.
They had players like Sneijder, Robben, Cannavaro etc.
Say what they want about Madrid - they'll probably end the season trophyless and got beat at home Sat by a team in 13th who'd only won once away from home all season. Dont get me wrong - its abig ask, a huge ask, but youve got quality players to have a go at em.

Mourinho has won the CL twice, that's twice more than all the clubs in London put together.

He'll cruise to victory in this tie, ronaldo will pwn, and you'll look like an idiot.

Will be a fascinating game.

Spurs have nowt to lose, if they get hammered, noone will bat an eyelid - But they have shown they can take the game to good teams, home and away.

Madrid could (and should) win easily at home - But they cant afford to underestimate a team like Spurs with nothing to lose and no fear.

I wouldn't want to be up against Van Der Vaart with a point to prove, either.

Why?

If Chelsea, United or Arsenal had a home game against Spurs, you wouldn't say they 'should win easily'. Yes it's Real Madrid, but they're on a similar level to the teams I mentioned, and nobody ever expects Spurs to roll over against them.

Going away to Real Madrid, in a European Quarter Final is MASSIVELY different to playing teams you play season in, season out in the Premier League.

It's a totally different kind of football, pressure and experience and as a team, this is the first time they are tasting it.

Yeh, it's tough. European exits are always tough to take, you're not out yet but realistically speaking it's all over. I think you gave a good account of yourselves in the first half, but to keep the concentration levels so high at a huge away ground with 10 men is extremely tough, you need a really experienced defence like Inter Vs Barca last season.

You suffered with the high pressing Mourinho employed, and the retention was not at the level you need in Europe. Spurs need to invest in a quality centreback and top class striker.

It's good to see you guys are so gracious in victory, makes it all the funnier when Barcelona do the same to you I guess. We've overachieved in the champions league this season but I think We've made it a better competition by being involved, would man city have provided this much entertainment? We'll see next year I guess.

About right. I think you did the competition proud and by getting this far proved you were worth your place. I'm pretty sure City wouldn't have done as well this season nor entertained as much. It would be great if you could build on this season, but that will be tough for you.

btw, was listening to the game on 5 live, and loved the way they compared lennons illness affecting spurs to ronaldo dropping out of the 98 world cup final

Yeah, I was like 'wtf'

They kept on going on that 'something more than meets the eye has happened tonight, this spurs team were a complete shadow of the one we've seen this season, it really reminded me of that world cup 98 team when brazil just didn't show up'

I was like

:ninja

then finally some commentator back in the UK studio said 'Sometimes you just have to say, maybe Spurs were outclassed tonight'

hahaha

hope there will be no red in the game in WHL. Hope to have a clean game with you guys. Anyway, Spurs have already earned respect for coming this far in the champion league. First in the qualifying round, trash the defending champion and beat the current champion of Italy AC Milan.

He always gets caught being "silly" at inopportune times. Reminds of that Getafe game when Cata Diaz almost killed him for being an arsé. Though, I don't see how this is any different than a team celebrating when they get a penalty call (often with a yellow or red)

Surely when they celebrate a penalty call they are celebrating the fact that they have a great chance to score? Not celebrating the actual displinary action against the player :laugh

They're celebrating an advantage. It isn't Marcelo's fault Crouch got caught with his pants down in Madrid, it hasn't been the first time either. :laugh

I dunno, I don't agree, it lacks class.

I'm sure Mourinho was delighted to see Crouch sent off, but he still gave Crouch a sympathetic tap on the back as he walked off...

Harry Redknapp reported that Aaron Lennon was lost to illness just before kick-off at the Bernabeu.

The manager said the winger 'hadn't been feeling great all day' and had to be replaced by Jermaine Jenas as we ended up losing the Champions League quarter-final, first leg 4-0 against Real Madrid.

"We lost Aaron just as the teams were walking on the pitch," said Harry. "He didn't feel well enough to play so we had to change straight away.

"He hadn't been feeling great all day. I said 'are you ok?' and he said 'I don't feel like I have any strength or energy to run', so I had to pull him out.

"He went out to warm-up, came in and just said he didn't feel well and wasn't fit enough to play. There is nothing you can do."

Vedran Corluka later limped off with an ankle injury, adding to Harry's defensive worries with Stoke next up in the Premier League on Saturday.

I personally don't think it's disrespectful. It's an advantage for our team and he knew as well as anyone else 'Spurs would have a hard time getting a goal back let alone putting themselves in a decent position for the return fixture.

If Crouch got severely injured and had to be stretchered off and Marcelo was celebrating, I'd have an issue. But as it were I'd be laughing at Crouch too, sliding in twice for two yellows. It's not like he didn't earn it with his own stupidity.

We should be sympathetic to his own stupidity? Bítch, please. You reap what you sow.

You wouldnt like it if it was a major match and happened against your team. It IS disrespectful...like playing on to score when an opponent's player is down and injured because its an 'advantage'. I wouldnt excuse any Barca players from doing the same as Marcelo did either, but thats me being objective

If you want to go after anybody, go after Crouch for being a dumb fúck.

I'm not interested in excuses, I'm only interested in results. And as such Spurs have only themselves to blame if they cant defend to save their lives or not get sent off. If they want to play Champions League seriously they have to step up.

Of course they have to step up, but do bear in mind that it's their first season competing in the European Cup in decades and their manager and most of their players have never competed at this level.

Even United and Arsenal used to be totally naive in their early days in the Champions League, rarely making it past the First Round or group stage.

It's all experience and I think a quarter-final is a fabulous achievement for them considering where they were two years ago.

Exactly, it's a honestly a joke the way some people are reacting to this, Our first time in this competition and we qualified from a difficult group and already beat a favourate over two legs, people say we need to step up? REAL haven't qualified past this point for the last few years. People need to get a grip.

By stepping up I mean making the most of a great opportunity, not f*cking it up by being ill 5 minutes before the game or tackling like Materazzi on crack. Spurs can play good football, but I dont respect teams that completely bottle it...and they did
