09/03/2003.
Spanish international striker Alfonso has agreed to join Real Betis on a permanent basis after having spent a successful season at the Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera last season on loan from Barcelona.

"I was born to play here," proclaimed the 30-year-old upon signing the one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.

"What is clear is that I have played my best years as a professional here, perhaps also because the personal aspect is better here than anywhere else I have been."
Alfonso also revealed that he turned down a lucrative move to an unnamed Middle Eastern team.

"I had an excellent offer from a team in the Middle East but it was not the moment to go there."

think so. Ard 2 million euros. I'm now slightly worried about our lack of forwards. Only dani and sergio garcia.

plus luis enrique can play up front when needed. since cocu is so versatile, maybe he could fill in time to time also :laugh :Kenzo's Smiley
plus on top of that there's saviola, kluivert and ronaldinho. more than enough :USA_Blue's_Smiley

Actually we had to pay betis if alfonso remained  Betis supposedly paid us 2 million euros in advance for him and another 2 million when the transfer got thru. when it was said that alfonso wasn't going to betis, betis wanted to take us to court, stating that if we didn't pay them back the 2 million, they wanted FA to discredit the players we bought this season (rule them out from playing for us).

So it was a good thing that he left.

we could also just have paid them the 2 million but we didn't need him.
