Mallorca did not loose or draw at home all season so far except against seville when they lost at home 1-3 , this match IMO will be open which is ideal for messi and score his usual goals , both pique and xavi are back to training dont know if they will be on the bench for this match , with the Cl match against Arsenal this week too in mind pep i think will use this formation

i'd seriously rest Messi for this game.
he should have rested in the last match not this one since it is easier for him to play against mallorca than osasouna since they will not be 10 men in defence.
rest messi vs 4th place mallorca? i wouldn't...

100% agree. Mallorca are too formidable at home to take any chances. Their coaches deserves a knighthood or a medal for the great work he's doing down there with little resources, expect a much bigger club to snap him up

Mallorca is a really tough team to play against and even more when they are playing at home. Only Sevilla did win (with some luck) there. Still I say Barca will win with one goal difference.

Mar 26 2010, 03:05 PM
Wll, their coach came out and said they're not going to play defense and they're gonna try and score early which means that if messi playes along side Ibra and pedro, they should take advantage and score early to keep the game open and force Mallorca not go back and play defense the whole game and depend on the counter attack. if we can can score a goal or 2 early, it will be over before half time...

no ******* way should we rest messi, this side are in form and in 4th place.
anyway, messi's a professional footballer and from what i can see hes a pretty good athlete, he should be able to cope fine, plus he never got out of second gear against osasuna, i actually think pep told him to take it easy because he didnt make the runs you'd normally see him make
lol jeez. he needs to be rested before Arsenal........and this is the only game available for that.
but whatever.
the league is just as important as la liga in my opinion. messi needs to play, unfortunately we put ourselves in this position after drawing with almeria.

Unfortunately I'd also say no to resting Messi...although there is a very tough stretch coming up and some rest would certainly help. I'm trying to get to the Bilbao match and I can just see Pep resting Messi for that match if not this one.

Mar 27 2010, 03:29 AM
Wouldn't start Messi, but definitely have him on the bench and bring him on if we're not ahead by a goal or two after the half. Shades of Osasuna last year. He's tired, it's obvious from the last match... and the last thing we want is him underperforming in the CL, especially with Ibra playing the way he is.

i feel kinda sorry for ibra, hopefully things will pick up again now and he'll show the great form he showed at the start of the season.
i still say it took alot of balls for him to take that zaragoza penalty, if i had missed the chances he had missed in the game id probably have been far too scared

well, my idea of resting Messi was shared by Pep [too bad he doesn't share the thought on playing Bojan more often]
starting with Jeffren though seems a little weird though.

nothing has happened so far anyway. a couple of shots but nothing to scream about. approaching half time. the team did get slightly better as the half went along. considering the players that are missing.
i suspect by minute 60-70, maybe even half time we'll at least see messi. there still isn't enough penetration. but the key seems to be iniesta being overworked in midfield. he doesn't seem to get enough support.
aaaaaand...we shouldnt have rested messi. we look like sh.it so far. mallorca have rocked the bar 2 times. we have no cutting edge at all, and the midfield is lifeless. we need to include xavi and messi for the 2nd half.

Good win guys, Mallorca are not easy to beat at home. Just a shame there wasn't more goals.
wow. what a grind for us this game, we are EXTREMELY fortunate to come out with 3 points today. Mallorca must feel very hard done by to not pick up any points, they were the better side imo. I fully expect them to claim 4th place and the lucrative cl spot. Alves intentionally picks up a yellow card for time wasting and misses the next game. this means he will not be at risk for being suspended for real madrid. no one really played well tonight tbh but we got the win. we really need to get another winger and cesc this summer imo.

wasn't the best of games, but sometimes you don't need to play soccer you just need to win, this was one of them games. I'm glad we got the three points, but OMG, their fans were amazing, non stop for 90 minutes man, that's what we need the Camp Nou. Thanks Ibra again, scoring when mostly needed....

we were lucky not to concede goals in the first half , it was good that messi was rested in the first half , IMO jefrin was good since he moved a lot and created some chances , the same for pedro who scored but his goal was disallowed for offside , good to have xavi back , alves is not the same since he came back from injury , puyol did a good job covering for alves and yaya played in the center of defence to cover for puyol which is something strange , i hope iniesta injury was not serous , ibra scoring for the 3rd match is good , hope he continue like that , at the end barca dominated most of the match but the 3 points were the most important to have.

Ronaldo probably has the best physique for a football I've ever seen (in a totally non homo way of course). He's defined and cut like f*ck but not overly so....if you see him live he's like a Bugatti and a luxury car of something as just as fast....
Puyol on the other hand, he's shorter like 5ft 9 or 10 but he's hewn from solid rock....abs you could chop timber on. I would not like to run into a 50-50 tackle with him

Nah, id agree really, he does kind of remind you of a sports car. Hes certainly bulked up a fair bit since his early Utd days anyway when he was a real skinny f*cker. Yeh Puyol is solid, i remember seeing him swapping shirts at ibrox in 2008 and thought he might have been on roids :laugh
i think its funny when you look at the physiques of modern footballers, guys like ronaldo and drogba who look very poweful, then you look at xavi, messi and iniesta, they all look like they should be easy to bully out of a game, but they're not.
