Lorient striker Jean-Claude Darcheville has today admitted that he has held talks with Newcastle United over a possible transfer.
The 26-year-old has denied reports in France that he has travelled to St James' Park for talks, but he admits that there has been contact between the two parties, when he commented: "Reports that I have been to Newcastle are wrong but I have been in contact with the club."
Darcheville has been in explosive form in the French top flight, bagging 17 league goals in Lorient's first season since promotion.
Other clubs in the chase for the French Guyanese star are Monaco and Bordeaux and the fee being mooted is around the £4.5million mark.
If the striker were to make a move to Newcastle it would not be his first spell in England, as he was on loan at Nottingham Forest in 1998 when they were relegated from the Premier League and, despite not scoring many goals in that season, his incredible pace was always a threat.
"Returning to England is not a priority, but if the opportunity arises I would consider it," he added.
