I want ur opinion on the best forward in the world. To me, the best forward is Del Piero. He dribbles, gives good crosses, takes great free kicks and takes his opportunities very well. What is ur opinion?

I have two. Del Piero and Raul.

VnR is a striker not a forward.
Del Piero is nowhere near the best forwards in the world. In fact the best forward in the world is without doubt Raul.
At Juve Miccoli might become the best forward in the world and I currently rate him more than Del Piero.

I agree. The best forward in the world is Raśl. If u asked the best striker, I would say RvN.

Best striker in the world is a tough one. Either RvN or Vieri. Would be nice to see Vieri with Chelsea and check how he does in the EPL.
Raul is way too over-rated for me. My best forward would probably be Zola.

Kluivert, Del Piero, Makaay and Miccoli are forwards. Vieri, Carew, Trez and van nistelrooy are strikers. Do u understand the difference now?

Del Piero finishes well with both feet pretty well while Raul is good with his left foot and is not good with the right. Del Piero is better at free kicks than Raul. How could u say that Raul is better than Del Piero.

you might be saying the same if you saw RM without Raul and then RM with Raul. They're a totally different team

Del Piero has a really bad freekick. He scores maybe one out of 10 shots. Raul is a much better player than Del Piero and that's a fact. I'm a Juve fan but I'm objective enough to know that Del Piero is not among the top 5 forwards in the world.
Raul, Mutu, Totti, etc are just a few names of better players than DP.

I saw Raul with Real Madrid! He was on the right side in the penalty area trying to beat the goalkeeper. He could have beaten the goalkeeper with his right foot but because his right foot is not too good, he tried to beat the goalkeeper with his left foot and failed.

if totti is a playmaker, why is he playing behind the forwards and also in midfield?

Last season he played as forward in Rome.

On Del Piero, I personally feel he has some sort of mental problem where he can't perform on the big stage. (BTW I don't mean illness, I just mean character flaw). I mean I remember they were talking him up at Euro 96 and he was a flop. He's been a bit of a flop at many major Championships for Italy. He's been on 3 champions league final losing sides, and he was AWFUL at Old Trafford in may.
Does anyone agree?

It's an intersting opinion, it can be seen that he has got really a strange character even if after the injury he had he has never reached the great levels of earlier years of his career
Yeah, during the Serie A he's superb :USA_Blue's_Smiley but when it's for a title/championship, he, for some reason or other, just doesn't perform like he should.

I agree Horsey. Obviously being a Juve fan, I follow all of Juve's matches and though most juve fans will defend Del Piero with their lives, fact is that he is just a hyped and over rated player.
Mind you, he has done quite well in these past 2 seasons, but nowhere near the early part of his career, and if it was another player who's been playing so on and off, he would have been called a finished player. His name keeps him among the most popular players, but hopefully Miccoli will over take his place.
In today's Cup Final, DP was crap and did nothing. Luckily he was substituted for a more enrgetic and in form Di Vaio who ran havoc in the Milan's defence.
As you well said, DP does not have the character for the big occasions, let along to captain one of the world's top clubs. Moggi please sell him, I`m sure Abramovic would give us at least 30m Euros before he finds out what a flop he is.
I might sound harsh, but I've followed all the games played by Juve and DP for the past 8 years, and the gems that DP used to produce in the first seasons, are now far and apart from each other. Too little for someone with such a big name and fame.

Oh and Totti can play both as Forward and Attacking Midfielder. I personally see him better when he plays behind 2 strikers or in a 4-2-3-1 formation (Totti as the forward behind the striker). Still wherever he plays, he produces quality football. 100 times better in quality and quantity than DP.

Totti is a playmaker but he can also play as a forward. He is most suited more as a playmaker. I believe they ran out of options and therefore put him in a forward position. Some players can play in different positions.Do you remember last season in the UCL when Nedved was played as forward and Del Piero as a striker. I think they played against Barcelona or Real Madrid. Therefore I won't call Totti a forward rather a playmaker.

If you remember I told "I'm not sure he is a playmaker", i didnt told "He is a forward". He can play in both position and he plays very well in both

Totti is clearly a seconda punta as he scores s***loads of goals. Zidane is a playmaker but is not a good forward as he doesn`t score as much.

If Del Piero is cramp, why is he wanted by Chelsea. They were going to pay alot of money for him.

To me Del Piero was playing well in the UCL final until he started to play as the playmaker then he started doing cramp. He is definitely no playmaker.

because the russian guy wants a big name for his team to make publicity and delpiero is a big name.

Actually, DP is the only 'world class' player that Chelsea did not enquire about!
DP had a good CL last season, but nothing really special.

The problem with Zidane (and I've noticed this with Davids as well) is that when he has the chance to shoot he doesn't go for goal, and just passes it on, and you would expect him to score.
Zizou
Aug 4 2003, 06:36 AM
Actually Davids tries to shoot too much and he does not really have a good shot. In fact 9 out 10 shots of his go high.

I think the best forward is Alvaro Recoba ;)
His thread reminds me of a thread where we discussed the differences between strikers, forwards or playmakers/attacking midfielders. Sometimes the distinction is very hard since some players can play at different positions. I agree with those who say that Raul is the best forward. But if I for example would be chairman of my beloved Inter I would try to sign Francesco Totti. I think much of his potential is wasted at AS Roma. He deserves a top club

Del piero like all of us have 'bad days' it just seems his come when he is playing important matches.Against realmadrid second leg he played like the old del piero. For just those matches when he plays like he can he is a superb forward and even the best in europe.
