Apparently there are 3 in the running.

Rio 'Intelligent' Ferdinand

John Terry aka Lionheart

Steeevie G MBE

Who should it be?

I have no idea TBH.

Straight choice between Rio and Terry for me.

Terry is the more natural leader though IMO so he would get the armband.

I question how good terry has actually been for England though?

There was a spell he was brilliant.

Same can be asked of Gerrard too and Rio has only recently become the rock he is.

Rio is ahead on 'performances' but although the media overplay it - Terry is a proper leader and IMO the kind that national teams (especially considering we have a foreign coach) needs. The type to drag people along.

Does it really matter that much? All 3 are leaders and good ones for me, either choice is fine. As long as the team performs, this is probably the least of England's concerns.

As VDV said, it doesn't matter, all three are great leaders and show it week in week out for their club (except between May and August ;))

It's worth giving it to Gerrard or Rio just so people get a reality check to see that Terry isn't the best defender in the world and doesn't play that well for England. Wearing that armband seems to act as some sort of forcefield against any critisism in an England shirt.

Rio for me. This is a man that gives his all for Englandand has matured vastly over the years to become a proper captain and inspiration to the youth of today. They say Captain's shouldn't have a tarnished record, and if you went by this then Gerrard will have the captaincy. But what I think deserves looking at is the player who is consistantly good for England, and nowadays I believe thats Rio out of these 3. The guy is the best option ATM too. He is playing for the worlds best club ATM, where he has just won CL and PL medals as well as becoming an ambasador in Nigeria. The guy is an example to all and by far the perfect candidate for the England captain ATM.

I know Capello is only experimenting but TBH I wouldn't bother trying Rooney at all. The only player I think is fit to captain our NT is still John Terry. An excellent leader that links up well with his defence and leads the whole team. He always gives his all for England no matter what your feelings are for him, and I think its unfair how he is being scapegoated by the FA after the Euro 2008 slump. He is better than Gerrard who is consistantly sh!t and a poor leader in an England shirt and the only other competition is Ferdinand, who focus' too much on his own game than those around him, to be considered captain. Those are the three contenders for the armband and Terry still beats them hands down.

Wow, big change a few months makes, eh?

Terry beat the others hands down and now Ferdinand does. :D

Yeah I remember that :laugh And it just shows how much Ferdinand has done in these past few months to win me over and prove he is the better candidate and captain of England. Remember what has happened in these months.....Ferdinand wins MU captaincy and proves himself to all winning the PL and CL, Terry had a breakdown, Ferdinand proves he is a better person. I do feel Ferdinand has proved me wrong totally over these previous months about how much of a good captain he is. He know longer focus' on his own game more than those around him and he is the best available ATM simply because he is playing for the best country in europe and quite possibly the world. He is ideal for me nowadays. :nod
