Sorry I say Birmingham it won't happen though because people in London and the Government don't let to think that anyone else could have such a great stadium or host and international event.

I think the new stadium should be built at Wembley, that place is special.

Talk of the midlands because it's in the middle of the country is no argument, we live in England, the whole country is only 400 miles long, so the difference to North London is 90 minutes at most in travelling tiime.

I was on the 216 today and I was looking at the new stadium for the commonwealth games (that there giving to *cough* city) and its definitley the best stadium in the country with good transport facillities an shit like that, if it had been the national stadium then it could've easily been built to around 90 thousand capacity, Im not exactly an England fan but I have been to Wembley a few times and its a shithole and the spreading games across the country thing has worked out ok and the Millenium Stadium is central and a mint venue so why not have it as it is?

Your kidding aren't you ??? I know it's been a while since Leeds were at Wembley but trust me it would take you a lot more than 90 minutes to get from your house to inside the stadium. The crap public transport doesn't help and that's hard to improve down there. Stick it in the middle it's the only fair place to put it. As for it being a special place down there, ehm why?

it will be at wembley because if it isnt built on that site, they lose £240mill in lottery funding. also they can charge more for tickets in london.

No, you misread my post. I was arguing against having a stadium in the midlands, I said "the difference to North London is 90 minutes" meaning it is an extra 90 minutes on your jorney time.

It's special because of it's history. It's just the name Wembley, it means cup finals, it means England. I have been to the old stadium many times (OK not seen Leeds much there :cry ) and I always thought the place was a dump, but it was just so special, and that's what made me want to go there.

I would just rebuild on the old site.

I didn't misread I just thought you were mad for suggesting London :)

But it's not the stadium which makes you think this it's because it's on English turf and it's known for cup finals. If we move it we will all love the new place and it will gain it's own history and we will all be wondering what we were arguing about (expect people from London who will be pissed off the have to travel so far)

Didnt we have this post in January, the strategy has not been thought out properly The centre of excellence is to based in Staffordshire so it should make sense to have the national football stadium within easy reach not 170 miles away. Its supposed to be the national team so the they should play around the country.

National Stadium should mean Englands stadium for all the fans, not just the London stadium for people in London.

Just because it's in London, it could still be a national stadium. In your argument why build it in Birmingham? then it would be a Birmingham stadium for Birmingham people. In Nottingham, it would be a Nottingham stadium for Nottingham people.

London is the obvious choice, it has the largest population of any English city, and north London is accessable for fans from the north.

And we all know what a warm reception certain England players get at Wembley don't we. The success of 'England On Tour' has made a national stadium unecessary. Italy, Spain and Germany play their games around the country and its not a major problem for them

I`d prefer midlands. No matter what people say, it is more accessible if driving. Trains are cr*p anywhere. But it will be London so we have to accept that. I wouldn`t mind as much if they`d just get the access to it sorted out. As it stands, its one of the hardest high profile stadiums to get to!

It was said in an earlier post that one reason it should be there is because London has the highest population?? eh? but wouldn`t a more rural area with good motorway links be easier to get to rather than a densely populated place?

I do laugh mind when you here the people complaining from London clubs about going to Cardiff or Old Trafford because of the Journey !! Maybe now they know how we feel when we have to go!!! (which isn`t as often as I`d like I know - before anyone else gets that in!!) :)

ah but its the southern scenario of believing the north is this vast wasteland where nothing should be put. indeed nottingham already has 2 sporting centres for the country. the ice stadium and watersports centre

Cup Finals should be played on a neutral ground, there should be a national stadium for England games and finals.
