View Full Version : Is Farias the "Real Deal"?

In watching Porto thrash Leiria today, I'm beginning to think this Farias kid is something special. He's been playing out of his mind the last few games. What do you guys think of this guy?
Btw..He's scored another brace today, and it looks like he should have had a hat trick as the 1st goal seemed to be deflected off him as well..:clap

If I remember correctly, and most of the time I do, Benfica had to come from behind to beat Leiria this year! You didn't seem to run rampant on them like Porto did today. Nuno actually scored 2 goals in that game, so you KNOW they must be terrible!!!!! :laugh

clubs such as leiria are scum and deserve to be relegated and never return to the top flight. clubs like leiria, pacos, leixoes, etc play so much harder against Sporting or Benfica.. but when Porto comes they take a day off and choose to play their worst game of the season
and then when Porto plays Sporting they lose.
these clubs they bring the competition into disrepute always playing their worst games against porto they only show up to play against Sporting or Benfica.
clubs who actually try to play against Porto: Braga, Boavista, Belenenses, maybe Maritimo and nacional, Guimaraes and Setubal
all other clubs always lie down and let porto poudn them and they should be punished.

He looks absolute class.
3 goals in 140 minutes or something :cool
And SCP, stop chatting sh1t.
Leiria suck, they have won ONE game all season, therefore we beat them at home comfortably.
Unlike Sporting who only turn up once a month and then blame external reasons.

Anyways its just one game. You really should pass judgment at the end of the year .

**** farias, Quaresmas back bitches!!!!!!!!
Amazing performance today, assisted both his goals.
Bossanova
Feb 2 2008, 09:56 PM
Yep Quaresma played great.
Everyone did though to be honest.
Simaofan is right, we can't truly judge Farias yet.
However, in his last three appearances he has impressed. When he entered vs Braga he assisted and scored in 10 minutes.
Against Sporting he added life to our attack, and hit the bar.
And today he scored twice and was heavily involved in many plays.
He looks excellent frankly, a million miles better than Adriano anyway.

Just to add to this ridiculous comment.
You mention 7 teams there that apparently actual turn up against us.
Add Sporting and Benfica that is 9.
You forget to mention Estrela de Amadora who we always struggle to beat, and came back from a 2-0 deficit to draw against us this season.
So thats 10.
Then we have failed to beat Pacos de Ferreira away for quite a while now, with Antunes scoring against us last season in a 1-1 draw.
It is a similar situation with Naval.
So thats 12.
Then you can't comment on Leixoes or Aves, as they are newly promoted.
So thats 14.
So who is left?
Academica and Leiria, the sides who are stuggling in the league.
Wow, great theory there einstein.
Funny how you don't mention the fact that Boavista generally roll over vs Sporting, but always make life difficult vs Porto.
Its just the way it is.
Same old Sporting. Always making excuses. :nod

If Farias turns out to be anything CLOSE to what he's shown the last few games, what a move by Porto to grab him. I mean, the Clausura is not a league for slouches and he averaged a goal every 2 games there so we'll see.

Farias is a real goalscorer who has purple patches and then doent score in a while.Been In Europe recently and have taken to watching Portuguese futbol to see my old mates Lucho and Tecla.Porto are a decent side but my God the standard is terrible. The others are pathetic.I saw Benfica-National last evening and the famous Eagles are pathetic and Sporting the same.Farias will easily score 2 goals every 3 games.

Cant really blame him for telling the truth.
Sporting rely on veloso and moutinho to do decently in midfield to get a chance game in game out, both who arnt much older then I am, which accounts for their hot and cold form.
Benfica, well, half our team is pure crap, and has no midfield or speed in attack.
Porto is the only one with a "luxery" of top quality players.
Quaresma
Bosingwa
Bruno Alves
Lucho
Lisandro
Assuncao
Farias
Fucile
Helder Barbosa is very promising, and now tarik is back from Africa.
If Benfica kept simao and miccoli, wed be so much better, but the difference is the quality of purchases and development..and porto has replensished their side superbly, while benfica did a horrible job restacking in talent to make immediate impact.

There are lessons for us in this its a small brave Argentine club called Velez Sarsfield world champions in 94.Velez maintain the best kept stadium in my country and only sell their players when the WANT to sell them at the price they want to sell at.They dont have directors bought by agents money who are willing to bribe them to let their stars go at cut price.

Please feel welcome to be open and honest with your opinions. No one is offended by your unbiased comments my man. Unless your portuguese and have a vested interest in a club, I can see why its very tough to just sit down with a beer and see a bwin liga team play. Quality of futebol is subpar to say the least.

Lisandro and Lucho should def be on the national team, is it because of playing in Portugal that they will never be called?

I think you're right on Lisandro, he has been called up twice in 2005. My bad. My concern is that the portuguese league doesn't have the visibility, the longer you play in Portugal the more people forget about you unless you do well in CL. That was supposedly one of the reasons that Miccoli left for Italy again.

Lucho regularly makes the Argie NT, and even was a starter in front of Cambiasso in WC 2006, except that he got injured early into the opening game, and only returned vs Germany.
Lisandro has the likes of Aguero, Crespo, Tevez, J.Cruz and Messi to compete with.
Maybe he should be selected ahead of J.Cruz, but all the others are deeply loved in Argentina.

we have a pretty defensive league. Counter-attack is the best system to play when you manage a small team. There are only 3 big teams in portugal so it's pretty normal for teams not to score more than 1/2 goals per game. That doesn't mean it's easier to score in here, on the contrary.
i bet not many teams "park the bus" in front of the goal in the river stadium as they do at Luz, and we have an ex-top scorer of your league as starter.

Crespo isn't getting any younger, neither is Julio Cruz and Messi plays more along the wings now a days. Lisandro is good but I don't know if he is good enough to take on a starting 11 spot but for sure he is a good enough player to get a call...

:clapThank you for your kind welcome friends.A few answers Lucho was a regular international when at River playing the 2004 Copa America and 2006 qualifiers.I think his problem with the seleccion is not so much Portuguese futbol but the tecnico then jose pekerman now Alfio Basile who seems to think what we need behind Riquelme,Messi,Aguero and Teves is a very defensive minded midfield with Zanetti,Mascherano and Cambiasso. To be fair Lucho didnt do well in the Copa America.
Lisandro Lopez was a full Argentine international when at Racing but he has serious competition for an up front place with the above 3 plus Crespo,Cruz,Palacio and Denis ahead of him.
As For Argentine opinion of the Portuguese league it isnt that well known interest is really confined to Spain and Italy and then when an Argentine player makes it in Portugal,England,Germany Mexico or France it makes some news. But 90% of coverage is for the home league and seleccion.
Porto,Benfica and Sporting are big names anywhere futbol is discussed and are respected as big clubs so if the right opportunity comes to a player they will go there.Farias whose time in River was up had the chance to go Mexico but chose Porto. However with our economy rapidly improveing the home clubs will keep more of the best players if it continues but with over 1000 professionals abroad theres always more.

Actually, Porto was so good in the 90's because:
1) Benfica almost went the way of Parmalat and nearly bankrupt and their president was too busy sailing in his little yacht "Lucky Me" and Toni was your coach way too many times.
2) Sporting is Sporting and can't get out of its own way

2 names that I will keep my eye on then! Hopefully, so are the scouting departments of one of our "Big 3" as well. To be honest the regular Argentine fan doesnt think much about anything but his own club. There are however those who take an interest in european futbol especially when Argentine players are involved so right now Inter,Atletico Madrid and Porto are watched with a certain interest.Spanish futbol is the most closely watched followed by Serie A.When it comes to the Champions league Porto is considered a big team, 2 time winner one of those this decade maybe still not with the certain glamour that surrounds Benfica.
As for me with the little i have seen Porto seem easily the best team in Portugal. To benefit the Argentines there, Lucho in particular it is important they at least reach the semi finals of the Champions.Lucho at River and in the seleccion played as an 8 for us a right sided midfielder but in Portugal he is much more central. This probably doesnt help his chances as Riquelme is the center of Basiles team with Zanetti in defensive mode or Maxi Rodriguez in attacking mode taking his old position.

A ESTRELA: Farías (3,5)
Also, your strikers can't score against uuuhhh..ANYONE! If LFV had signed Farigol, he would have been the "signing of the season".
