Juventus Will Bid For Sissoko – Report

Juventus will make an official transfer bid for Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko in January, according to the Daily Mirror.

zoom - galleria The Mali midfielder is unhappy at his lack of playing time at Anfield, as he currently finds himself behind Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano in the centre-midfield pecking order.

Bianconeri boss Claudio Ranieri is a huge admirer of the player, having worked with him at Valencia in 2004/05.

The Tinkerman is in desperate need of a top-class centre midfielder as big money summer signings Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes have failed to shine.

Sissoko, who had the chance to move to Turin in the summer before signing a contract extension at Liverpool, declared last week that he wanted to leave the club.

“I am sick and tired and want to leave,” the 22-year-old moaned.

“I am really disappointed because the game against Marseille [in the Champions League] I was counting on.

“I respect the choices of the coach but now I want to discuss my future before the January transfer market. I am not happy about playing one game per month.”

Meanwhile there are reports that Inter Milan may try to hijack Juventus’ deal for Sissoko. The Nerazzurri are currently in the midst of an injury crisis in midfield, and seem certain to enter into the January transfer market.

Juventus Line Up Double Liverpool Swoop

Juventus want to buy Liverpool midfield duo Momo Sissoko and Xabi Alonso, according to Tuttosport.

zoom - galleria The Bianconeri are in the market for a top-class centre midfielder, and have sent a representative to Anfield today to enquire about the availability of the pair.

Sissoko

Sissoko is desperate to quit the Reds after falling way down the pecking order.

“I am sick and tired and want to leave. I am not happy about playing one game per month,” the Mali international said last week.

Juve boss Claudio Ranieri is a massive admirer of the Mali international and would like to bring him to the club in January.

Sissoko is likely to be open to the move and he admitted last month that he should have accepted a transfer to the ‘Old Lady’ when he had the chance during the summer.

“I should have accepted a move to Juventus,” the 22-year-old moaned. “Not moving to Juve was a massive error on my part.”

Xabi Alonso

As for Xabi Alonso, it is unclear whether Reds boss Rafa Benitez would be willing to let him leave.

Either way the former Real Sociedad will certainly not be allowed to move until the summer at the very earliest.

Juve are likely to find space for the pair by selling summer flops Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes.

Sissoko: Juve Transfer Close To Completion

Juventus are close to completing the signing of Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko, the player himself has admitted.

zoom - galleria It has been no secret that the main objective of the Bianconeri’s January transfer campaign has been to find a new centre-midfielder.

This led to links with a host of top names, including Rafael Van der Vaart, Diego and Javier Mascherano.

However it now seems virtually certain that it will be Mascherano’s Liverpool team-mate Momo Sissoko who will be moving to the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

“The negotiations with Juve are close to conclusion,” Sissoko told RMC.

“I am waiting for news in the coming days and while nothing has been signed yet, I can confirm that there are advanced negotiations between the Bianconeri and my agents.

“Certainly I would be excited to go to Turin. It is a prestigious club, it would be a new challenge and I could demonstrate my quality.”

The cost of the transfer is believed to be around €15m, which will leave Juve €5m remaining of their €20m January transfer budget.

I think Juve should go after Mascherano instead. He's on loan at Liverpool and we could buy him permanently as Liverpool's American owners don't seem to want to give Benitez permission to sign him permanently.

Calcio Debate: Signing Sissoko A Huge Mistake For Juve

With Juventus looking virtually certain to sign Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko, Carlo Garganese believes that the Bianconeri could be making a huge mistake…

zoom - galleria It is common knowledge that Juventus are on the market for a top-class centre midfielder during this month’s transfer window.

This has led to a host of big names being linked to the club, including the likes of Diego, Rafael Van der Vaart and Javier Mascherano.

Ultimately though it seems that the Old Lady have plumped for Liverpool battler Momo Sissoko. “The negotiations with Juve are close to conclusion. I can confirm that there are advanced negotiations between the Bianconeri and my agents.” the player told RMC a couple of days ago.

The 22-year-old Sissoko seems to have this mythical reputation, particularly in Italy, as the “new Patrick Vieira”. In reality nothing could be further from the truth.

The Malian is quite possibly the most over-rated player currently in circulation. He can’t pass, he can’t tackle without getting booked, he has poor technique and his shooting is abysmal as exemplified by the fact he has only scored two goals in his entire career.

The only attributes that Sissoko has in his locker are physical – he has excellent stamina and can run all day long. However does this make him a good player?

Most certainly not, as if this was the case then Olympic athletes would combine football with their track & field careers.

Admittedly at the age of 22, Sissoko is still very young and there is still a lot of time for him to improve. He may surprise me and suddenly develop an ability to pass, tackle, shoot, and control a ball. If he does I hold my hands up and apologise, however I just cannot for the life of me understand why Juventus would be prepared to pay the reported €15m for the player.

Juventus director of sport Alessio Secco had a disastrous transfer campaign last summer, and I am really beginning to doubt his competence at his job.

The Bianconeri splashed out €22m on Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron, a huge amount of money on two players that were never going to be a title-winning or Champions League-winning centre-midfield partnership.

Surely it would have been better to spend that money on one guaranteed world-class midfielder?

His other signings from last summer have also failed to shine. Jorge Andrade was awful in the opening weeks of the season before his serious knee injury, while Zdenek Grygera and Hasan Salihamidzic have hardly set the world on fire.

The only new players this season that have impressed are Antonio Nocerino and Vincenzo Iaquinta, and it may surprise you to know that neither of these were Secco’s signings.

They were in fact former transfer guru Luciano Moggi’s players. Iaquinta was tracked by Lucky Luciano for a number of years, while Nocerino joined the Juve youth-system six years ago before being sent out on loan and co-ownership deals.

Indeed the real reason Juventus are performing so well this season is everything to do with Moggi and nothing to do with Secco.

It is the likes of Trezeguet, Chiellini and Buffon who have been protagonists, while even the brilliant crop of youth players that includes likely future Italy internationals such as Sebastian Giovinco, Claudio Marchisio and Domenico Criscito was Moggi’s work.

The imminent signing of Momo Sissoko appears to me only a continuation of the disastrous transfer policy of Secco.

Sissoko at the age of 21 (before injury) was already better than Patrick Vieira was at his peak according to Liverpool supporters on here (I kid you not) so I would take their opinions with a pinch of salt.

he wasn't better than vieira. defensively he is great but not offensively poor. he was quite good (before injury) though. he would have one duty at juve and that is to destroy.

the thread you were referring to was made 2 seasons back when he was on top form, a member brought it back because there has been such a change since...

on the topic of sissoko, i have no doubt that sissoko is going to turn out to be a world class midfielder and will destroy other midfields in serie a on his own...the lad has a great engine, covers an amazing amount of ground and when given a run in the team and confidence he can also pass a little but dont expect a defence splitting pass...however, what sissoko needs to partner him in midfield is a top class playmaker, a great passer, like alonso, so he can concentrate on passing and sissoko can concntrat on tackling, (i dont know if juve have a class playmaker at the moment)...

either way, i dont think juve fans should worry too much about sissoko because he has a lot of great attributes and still has an abundancy of potential, with good management he will do well...
the lad destroyed the whole barca team on his own last year in both legs, he kept ronoldinho, messi, xavi and deco all quiet...

with regards to what has happened at liverpool, he was playing very well until rafa for some reason bought mascherano (hes a good player obviously but to be honest, we actually didnt need him at the time) which u could imagine being a confidence killer for sissoko and ever since, he has been give hardly and games by benitez, thus the dip in form and plus he has been played in advanced positions which clearly isnt where he shouldnt be playing...

i believe also it was confidence that led him to play badly. IMO mascherano maybe good all round but sissoko has a presence, strength to push persons off the ball and destroy. mascherano is a classy DM but sissoko is a ball winner and destroyer. i didn't see the sense of bringing in someone while you have sissoko playing at a high level. ur wasting money that way.

Well, my friends who are Liverpool fans are delighted to be selling him for such a high price.

They might be able to afford Mascherano now with this extra money and he is ten times better than Sissoko.

yeah, i mean, when a player is doing well, there is no real need for a replacement to be bought, sissoko was doing well and masch was bought and sissoko was pushed to the side, it dented his confidence big time...
if juventus have bought him to be a destroyer in the middle of the park they will realise they have a good player that has potential, trust me...i for one hope he does well because he has got a lot of unfair criticism lately

mascherano is a better player than sissoko all round but in terms of winning the ball, which is what both players are essentially made to do, they are on a level, there maybe a case that in his top form, sissoko was a better ball winner

Sissoko to Juventus may not yet be a "done deal", according to this Sky rumour
Valencia have entered the race to sign unsettled Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko.

The Mali international recently revealed he is keen for a 'new challenge' and Juventus were thought to be close to agreeing a deal.
