Our call ups:
Lista de convocados:
Guarda-redes: Helton e Vítor Baía.
Defesas: Fucile, Bosingwa, Pepe, Ricardo Costa, Bruno Alves e Marek Cech.
Médios: Lucho González, Paulo Assunção, Raúl Meireles e Ibson.
Avançados: Quaresma, Hélder Postiga, Bruno Moraes, Lisandro López, Alan e Adriano.
easy for porto, braga is missing all their best players Madrid, Vandinho, Joao Pinto, Maciel. All their midfield is out of the game

Easy game?
Any game vs Braga is never easy.
Particularly as we haven't beaten them in the league since the 2004/5 season I believe.
It will be a huge game, bigger than the Chelsea game IMO.
We must concentrate on the league, as it is our realistic objective this season.
If we can beat Braga, we can then play Chelsea without pressure, enjoy the spotlight of the CL and do our best in a game we are expected to lose.
Braga will be tough
lol at braga's midfield, even benfica junior team is better
Defesas: Luís Filipe, Pedro Costa, Paulo Jorge, Nem, Rodriguez, Carlos Fernandes e Jorge Luiz;
Médios: Castanheira, Andrade, Frechaut, Ricardo Chaves e Davide;
Avançados: Césinha, Zé Carlos, Chmiest, Buno Gama e Diego Costa.

I would play:
--------------------Helton--------------------------
Bosingwa-------Pepe--------B.Alves-----------Cech
-------------Assuncao-------Lucho---------------
Licha---------------Ibson-----------------Quaresma
--------------------Adriano------------------------
Ibson would add more attacking flair than Meireles, and our midfield lacks creativity and shape.
Adriano is a proven goalscorer, and Postiga is in poor form.
Cech or Fucile? Cech is woeful attacking, but good defensively. Thats why I chose him. However if Meireles starts, which is almost certain, maybe Fucile would be a better choice.

If Ibson plays badly, at half time I would replace him with B.Moraes if we were drawing/losing, or Meireles if we were winning.
i wouldn't be surprised if Ze Carlos doesn't start, so what would be the point of the fight between Jorge Bosta and him, it would need to have a purpose, and it is to be benched vs porto.

Jorge Costa cares about his career, and not the club he played for and supports.
Its like saying Jesualdo Ferreira plays Postiga and Meireles because he wants Benfica to win the league.
Wait....

Braga has proven time and time again that even missing numerous key players to suspensions and injuries they can play good soccer and pull the rabbit out of the hat.
This will be a close game, but Porto just has to much quality vs a depleted Braga team, and it will eventually take its toll during the game.
I hope Braga wins yet again though missing key players:devil
Anderson declined to play in this match so he can work on fitness more and see if hes ready vs chelsea.

Postiga has more experience and isnt to bad, he's just streaky as hell.
He has pretty decent movement and can hold up the ball with quite a bit of skill..and can finish somewhat with both his head and feet.
Adriano just looks so clumsy, reminds me of derlei nowadays:laugh
Adriano is miles better, no questions about it.
anyway SuperDragoes are teh biggest scum on earth, and they prooved it once again, besides they didn't respect the one minute of silence due to the memory of Bento, they started to sing their own chants, and then when the non supporter groups fans from Porto started to clap, they sang SLB Fillhos da Puta ffs, they should be ashamed of themselvs. Bento besides beinga benfica keeper, was portugal's keeper for more than a decade.
I've never seeen such an attitude(sp?) by any other supporters group worldwide, even if rivals like in this case.
Hope they should get punished for that, just SD not Porto.

i dont know..do you honestly think Adriano can cut it vs chelsea etc?
Prime example= arsenal.
first match he started and was horrible, embaressment to porto and its name.
second match postiga started and was pretty good, caused some problems and opened up space for teamates.
You spelt Attitude properly as well, finally something right:devil :clap :laugh

You really should open your eyes more than.
Anyway, its a persons choice whether to respect someones death or not.
Bento was a symbol of Benfica, SD detest Benfica.
So why should they show respect?
RIP and all that, but I don't see why SD should have shown respect to Bento, when he meant nothing to our fans. Club and country are different, remember that.
The booing was done to annoy benfiquistas, and it worked. I doubt any SD actually disliked Bento :laugh
And if you think no other fans in the world show such disrespect then open your eyes. Look at the songs Man Utd and Liverpool fans sing to each other at their matches.
"Whos that dying on the runway?" is slightly in worse jest than not obeying a one minute silence.

We didn't play well, and rode our luck at times, but in these tough matches any win will do frankly.
We must improve before the Sporting and Benfica games though, as they are the crucial part of our season.
I think the Chelsea match may be a good experience for us :nod
The meireles penalty was a difficult decision. The foul began outside the area, so maybe a freekick would have been more correct. There was undeniable contact though, and Meireles took advantage of it.
Ratings:
Helton-4 Superb stop from Ze Carlos, solid throughout
Bosingwa-3 Pulled up injured, had look decent up until then
Pepe-4 Very good
B.Alves-4 Very good too, an amazing tackle in the area when Ze Carlos was about to shoot
Fucile-3.5 Did his job well on the left and right.
P.Assuncao-4 Superb all night, had a superb tackle misjudged as a foul by the ref, finished as captain
Lucho-3 Excellent first 20 minutes, then died out a bit, missed a penalty, looked upset for the rest of the match, and was caught on the ball a few times in the match. Not awful, just below his high standards.
Meireles-3.5 A better match from him, but lacks enough attacking qualities for the midfield shape.
Quaresma-3/3.5 Always a danger, but still looks rusty.
Licha-3/3.5 Always a problem for defenders, not his greatest night though. Did superbly to keep the ball in, and then in the concurrence of the attack struck an amazing shot.
Adriano-3.5 Took his best chance, looked decent for the most part.
Subs:
Marek-3 Looked solid enough
Ibson-2.5 Never imposed himself on the game.

im pretty sure that no one did what the SD did when George Best died.
very disappointing how you are thinking that way. what did Bento ever do to the SD's besides helping Benfica to 10 championships in 18 years? :salute

Mar 3 2007, 10:28 PM
I don't think like SD, I wouldn't have booed.
But fans pay alot of money to follow their team, and get excited by going to matches etc, why should they sit silently for 1 minute to respect a sporting rivals death. People are entitled to their own opinions and actions, and they all paid for their place in the stadium, and their opinion was not to respect the silence. It wasn't a violent opinion, or racist etc, so they were allowed to air it.
Alot of Benfica fans don't understand the hatred of the club, but its easy enough to see if you open your eyes. A club with 60% of the nation supporting, in a Lisboncentric nation etc etc, if it was a Porto keeper (apart from Baia) who had died, im sure the fans in the Luz would not have had to sit in a 1 minute silence even if the keeper had 30 caps for portugal etc.
At the end of the day the rivalry is what SD members live for, and they will use anything to p1ss off Benfica.
Like I said, the fans have nothing against Bento, it was just to annoy Benfiquistas.
Bossanova
Mar 3 2007, 10:39 PM
To be clearer on my point of view:
I don't agree the actions of the SD.
And the booing was due to the heavy association of Bento to Benfica, and therefore it was a chance to boo Benfica in effect.
Finally, DvA claims that SD should be punished. What for? For booing? For singing?
If people aren't allowed to let out their emotions in non violent ways at football matches, then we might as well play behind closed doors.

but did Arsenal/Chelsea do that when they had a moment of silence for George Best?
Bossanova

Arsenal/Chelsea are hardly Man Utds bitter rivals.
I think there was a 1 minute silence that was largely respected at Anfield by Liverpool fans.
I don't think like SD, I wouldn't have booed.

some former glories of Porto died in the recent years and every one of them was respected with claps, never got booed, it an attitude never seen before in Portugal, all media is talking about it.

that's hilarious. wrong but hilarious
And I agree with everything you said, I think these minutes of silence should stop being imposed to the clubs.
Porto was fined 1500€ because their fans booed the silence minute dedicated to Bento. I always knew Porto was going to get a fine because of that.

I understand, but what I am saying is not wrong either.
Right wing political parties are legally allowed to promote their party, which may be racist etc etc
Its because its freedom of speech.
Just like this is.
Its disrespectful and not nice, but I think a fine is against the laws of most western lands in principle. However, its a minor anyway.
