Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly struck an agreement with Derby County, which binds 18-year-old winger Giles Barnes to a move to White Hart Lane in the summer.
It was reported on the January transfer deadline day that Spurs had failed with the last-gasp bid for Barnes.
However, the News of the World has claimed Martin Jol’s side has agreed a £3 million bid for the former Manchester United youth player, who joined the Rams in 2005.
Before the 2006/2007 season, Barking-born Barnes signed a 4-year extension to his current contract, in order to allay the fears of some Rams fans that he may leave the club.

Another report has popped up, although the website is mainly of Scottish football, the editor is a Derby County fan

Speculation of a pre-contract agreement being signed to take Giles Barnes to White Hart Lane

Speculation on a report this morning that Tottenham Hotspur have had a £3million deal accepted for Giles Barnes. The move can not however take place before the end of the season but it is said that an agreement between the two clubs has been reached and Barnes will move to White Hart Lane in the summer.

Derby County have not as yet confirmed or denied the speculation and it is a surprise with the Rams still leading the charge for a Premiership place for the 2007-08 season. The Rams will clearly need quality players should they gain promotion and Barnes has been rated as one of the top young midfield players in the country at the moment.

The 18 year-old could be joining former Rams midfielder Tom Huddlestone who moved to Spurs in 2005 for a reported £2.5m. There has recently been some speculation at a row concerning further payments of this sum that the Rams claim they are owed. This we assume will have been sorted out prior to any arrangement being entered into for Barnes.
