Reds striker Dirk Kuyt will join a host of celebrities at the city's Christmas lights switch-on this Sunday.
The Dutchman will be there alongside Ricky Tomlinson, plus Eton Road and Ray Quinn from X-Factor.

Thousands of fans are expected outside St George's Hall from 5pm.

Ray Quinn will open proceedings with his version of Dean Martin's Ain't That a Kick in the Head, followed by Eton Road doing Abba.

Ricky Tomlinson will then take to the stage as Jim Royle to perform his festive single Christmas My A**e.

The event features trapeze artists as well as renditions of The Snowman and Winter Wonderland by pupils from Notre Dame Gospel Choir.

There'll also be guest appearances from Two of Us star Mark Moraghan and Everton forward Andy Johnson.

A spectacular fireworks display off Wellington Column will bring the evening to a climax at 5.45pm.

This year's Christmas lights are 25 per cent bigger than ever before, with Sir Thomas Street, Great Charlotte Street, Renshaw Street and Richmond Street included for the first time.

Now then, now then, now then. Jimmy Saville (http://www.excite.co.uk/search/image/results/?qs=2067&q=jimmy+saville) is back. Celebrating his 80th birthday next Tuesday, Sir Jim OBE will be granting wishes for you, and you, and you and you in a brand new show starting Febuary 2007: Jim’ll Fix It: (http://www.excite.co.uk/search/web/results/?qs=2066&q=Jim%27ll+Fix+It&c=)

The old show, which ran for an astonishing 19 years from 1976 onwards, will also be resurected. Jim will be delving into the post bag from years gone by and granting the wishes of the grown up kids from the 70s and 80s.

I thought I might have been going mad when I heard it but it is true. He is coming back. Doubt my letter of wanting to go on concorde will be on the show though.

Gotta say aswell, I ******* love Kuyt.

Hes one of them players, that are few and far between that KNOWS what it means to pull on a shirt.

He knows he is at a very special club, where many would be privilledged to wear a liverbird on their chest, and he goes out there and gives his all.

At Boro on Saturday again, he ******* ran his arse off.

Put your hands up for Dirk Kuyt, Put your hands up, for Dirk Kuyt.

Love guy already aswell, nothing more special than seeing someone give 110% for the club. Some of the others should take a page out of Kuyts book. Hopefully he puts in charge against PSV on Wednesday... :clap :bowing

U can count on ur hand, sadly, the ammount of players at the club who are like that.

IMO:

Fowler
Alonso
Kuyt
Carra

Ugh, after I typed what I said I tried to count them in my head and the amount I came up with was less than the amount of times we've won the European Cup, which was 5 times by the way... :D

yer i loved him before he joined , i didnt really follow dutch football but you cant help but warm to the guy.

he set up a charity with his wife and helps underpriviledged kids across holland . When he plays for us he just gives all the effort imaginable and also he is a tremendous footballer

Another vuirtuoso hard working display, complete with two assists for the dutch master.

He's looked very good at Anfield so far but he along with the rest of the team need to start showing up away from home.

Shanks
Nov 23 2006, 09:46 AM
Thing is, away from home, he has been running his arse off too, the difference is that he doesnt get any service away from home, cos we cant pass the ball away from home..........Boro excluded.

I understand that Shanksand he does work very hard but even so when he's had a decent chance away from home he's not taken it.

He had a header at Old Trafford that he really should have done better with and that half volley at Stamford Bridge he should have buried. At Anfield i think he'd have put them both away.

Shanks
Nov 23 2006, 02:15 PM
I dont think u can say that tbh, playing home and away effects teams, but i dont think its enough to determine whether one goes in or not.

I think that Kuyt would have put them chances away at Anfield especially the one against Chelsea

The same way that if a chance falls to Samaras i'd fancy him to score if we were at home more than his chances of converting the same chance away from home. Whether it's a mental thing i don't know but i certainly feel more confident with players taking chances at home rather than away games.

Shanks
Nov 23 2006, 06:37 PM
I dont buy into that mate, finishing is instinct.

mancboyhudson
Nov 24 2006, 06:34 AM
Fair enough Shanks but i think theres also a confidence aspect to putting the ball in the back of the net.

As i've said take Samaras for example he's had plenty of chances to score away from home but has only scored away from home once while he's been with us in the premiership yet he's scored about 7 at home in the leauge.

He doesn't seem to play with any confidence away from home and it shows because when he gets a chance more often than not he fluffs it.

Shanks

Maybe thats cos he is ****.............ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Lol

:laugh

Well thats open to debate i suppose. I certainly don't think he's sh*t but a fair few City fans do.

But it still remains that he's had chances away from home and has missed them yet he's scored much more difficult chances when we've played at home.

samaras is an enigma...he'll do a very stupid thing one moment and the next moment he'll volley in a goal from long range.
