04/23/2003. Leading Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport has hailed the return of Catenaccio after Inter and Juventus both made it past their Spanish opponents.

The Nerazzurri defended for almost the whole game against Valencia, lost 2-1, but still made it through 2-2 on aggregate courtesy of the away-goals rule.

Ten-man Juventus, meanwhile, were also put on the rack against Barcelona, but with the scores level in extra-time, and the Catalans pushing on, Marcelo Zalayeta broke Spanish hearts when converting after a swift counterattack.

"We might be in the 21st century, but we haven't forgotten the art of catenaccio," read the front page of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Inter reached the semi-finals of the Champions League using weapons it thought it had buried forever," it continued.

"Valencia was superior in every department. Goal chances, shots on goal, possession. It was a siege.

"Inter owes its passage to its goalkeeper Francesco Toldo, who pulled off one, two, five prodigious saves.

And on the Italians' re-emergence in European soccer, the paper said: "If Milan can get past Ajax, Italian soccer would repeat the spectacular feat, only achieved by the Spanish three years ago, when Real Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona got to the semi-finals, with the first two playing the final, and Real winning it."

Inter coach Hector Cuper said about his team's display: "I don't work towards 'catenaccio' but we did spend a lot of time close to our area. We defended well but we were just lacking in terms of keeping hold of possession."

Hold on, they said that INTER DID CATENACCIO!
Not Juventus. Juve just won thanx to a counterattack! But we didnt do a CATENACCIO, and the paper doesnt say we did. Just to be clear enought.

INTER SUCKS. Blame Inter.

Oh, and always to be precise, Gazzetta dello Sport is 1 of 3 papers totally dedicated to Sport we got in Italy. The other 2 were titles "Juventus Mundial" and "Immense Juventus".

And La Gazzetta Dello Sport are more pro Milan teams.

Tuttosport is the one pro Juve, however they always have the most stupid transfer rumours on their front page.

That's because Tuttosport is more like a gossips magazine :devil
Gazzetta might be more on the Milan teams' side, but still it's a newspaper you can trust.
