View Full Version : Who said we lack worldclass players?!

The recent FIFA "best player of the year" shortlist included four German players. Ballack, Klose, Lahm & Lehmann were all included which makes Germany the second best represented country in that list, coming after France but surpassing countries like England, Spain and even Brazil!!
Well, this is the practical and realistic reply to those who claim that the German NT lacks any class. As a matter of fact if Frings was added to that list (and in my opinion he should have) then Germany would have equalled the top-spot.
On the other hand the Bundesliga was narrowly represented with only 2 players (Klose & Lahm) compared to the EPL's Lampard, Cech, Essien, Drogba , Ballack, Shevchenko, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry.

This was more often than not echoed by English media simply because England always claims to be the best footballing nation on this planet contrary to what is really happening on the pitch.I am disheartened by SCHWEINSTEIGER's exclusion from this list because this player is undisputably the best playmaker in the world at his tender age of 22.But, Schweinsteiger has not received media attention undeservedly.Seizing this opportunity, I would like to call on German media as a whole to exert maximum efforts to publicise Klose's outstanding scoring and goal -distributing ability to the world so that Klose can stand any chance of lifting Fifa's world player of the year award, the most prestigious award for any international player. If Klose is an Englishman, the BRITISH media will do everything possible to make KLOSE the best player, but because the German media is passive, they have not made any stride yet.In reality, however, KLOSE should scoop this year's award only on performance basis. He has scored 25 goals and assisted 16 goals in only 26 appearance for Bremen.Besides, he finished top scorer of the world cup 2006 and made 2 important assists for Podolski in Germany's 2-0 over SWEDEN en route to the quarter-finals.Even his priceless equalizer against ARGENTINA was more worth.I wish Klose and LINGOR[from FFC FRANKFURT]the best luck.

Don't agree with that. He was below average at the world cup. He scores high-profile goals and so everybody pisses their pants and jumps on the Schweini bandwagon. His overall play, passing, ball control and set pieces, at times, leaves a lot to be desired for me. Good player but I personally wouldn't dream of comparing him to the likes of Riquelme, Ronaldinho or Messi

Right, I wouldn't have any idea anyways. Keep munching on your ******* pies.

And they're big name players playing for big name clubs because they have no actual footballing talent whatsoever, right? They're all talentless losers while such stellar superstars such as Joey Barton are being left out unfairly. The players nominated are only sought after by the other big clubs solely because they have nice personalities. It's not because they're actually any good.

Here's the complete list. There are some amazing players included in this list, but some dubious choices too. However, can you still sit there and tell me that this award has nothing to do with talent whatsover?

My issues with the award have to do with the lack of defenders nominated and the inclusion of Adriano, C. Ronaldo, Rosicky and maybe on or two others, but even those players are exceptionally gifted players. I would have liked to see Terry, Lucio and Hleb nominated.

Adriano (Inter Milan, Brazil), Michael Ballack (Chelsea, Germany), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, Italy), Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid, Italy), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United, Portugal), Petr Cech (Chelsea, Czech Republic), Deco (Barcelona, Portugal), Didier Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast), Michael Essien (Chelsea, Ghana), Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona, Cameroon), Luis Figo (Inter Milan, Portugal), Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan, Italy), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool, England), Thierry Henry (Arsenal, France), Kaka (AC Milan, Brazil), Miroslav Klose (Werder Bremen, Germany), Philippe Lahm (Bayern Munich, Germany), Frank Lampard (Chelsea, England), Jens Lehmann (Arsenal, Germany), Alessandro Nesta (AC Milan, Italy), Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan, Italy), Franck Ribery (Marseille, France), Juan Roman Riquelme (Villarreal, Argentina), Ronaldinho (Barcelona, Brazil), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United, England), Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal, Czech Republic), Andriy Shevchenko (Chelsea, Ukraine), Lilian Thuram (Barcelona, France), Patrick Vieira (Inter Milan, France), Zinedine Zidane (retired, France).

Glad to see that our players are getting recognized. The NT is on fire and future looks bright. It is a must that our NT players continue to get European Champion expierence so we don't falter. I also would like to see an improvement in the level of play at the BL. It would be nice to have 3-4 clubls on a yearly basis competing closely for the title. We might have this happen this year but it is more due to lower overall performance versus team stepping up to the level of Bayern and Werder from last year.

90% of those players were integral players for their NTs this year. I mean some were injured in the summer and some had lacklustre performances in the WC, but they're still a lot better than any other options.

So what if we dont have a world class team??? Italy won the WC and IMO the only 2 player who were World class were Cannavaro and Buffon; they played good and collective football and had the best defence of the tournament that was enough. Germany havent the best team either but we got the third spot. Look at Brazil , Full of great players and didnt achieve anything in WC . As long as germany plays great i dont care if we have 4 or 5 Wold class players. Playing as a team is the most important thing in fussball.

Prost :drinkbeer

sorry Italian guys here. I know you're world champions but in fact Germany came out of this world cup as much profitable as you are. Look at your mean age level (31!) and the Germans (26) which drops to 25 if Kahn or Lehmann were replaced.
And even more take a look at the age of players in the FIFA best player list. Germans have 3 players in their 20s while the Italians have an elderly bunch who'll play with walking aids in 2008 LOL.
When it comes to world class players I think we started to build a good team and in Euro 2008 Germany will have a very good chance to compete for the title. Aging France & Italy teams won't be able to withstand their geriatric problems.

nearly world class: Mertesacker, Lahm, Ballack

Timonator, the fact that you have to rely on Klose just shows that your team is trash. The guy is a former ballet dancer man, He is not world class. Beckenbauer or Gerd Muller were world class, Breitner and Overath were world class not hyped Klose.Calling me SPaghetti boy just shows that the racist nazi genes are still in you. Instead of calling me racist names, come up with some facts to back up your ****... you lost... your age medien means **** to me. Our team has loads of youngsters that are no in Donadoni's team. You need to stop reading Der Spiegel and open your eyes.

Puyol is good but not the best CB in the world... far from it.

Southern, sorry mate, but Totti is one of the if not THE best player in the world. Go check out the stats and you will see he has a higher goal average than Ronaldinho in the last 6 seasons. I already schooled dumb losers like you in the past and I made my research.

Scorpion, does it mean anything? Mertesacker is trash. Ballack is good but not classy... Lahm is class... the rest is ok. The WC Italy won the WC and owned you... fact. The ne Italy has loads of youth players. Come again? Yes shut up.
