Lebensjahr.

I'll translate the most important parts:
Stuttgart's youngster Tasci in moral conflict: For whom shall he play?
"Turks want Tasci"
[...]
highflier Tasci - the son of turkish parents has to fight hard with himself for a few weeks. It's a battle between the nationalities in his heart. Until now, Tasci was convinced that he wants to play for Germnay. He was born here and has a German passport - and has already played in three U19 National team games for Germany.
But since 4 weeks ago this has changed: Tasci got a phone call from the turkish football federation.
"They absolutely want him to play for the country of his parents", says Tasci's manager Uli Ferber.
Since then, the Turks lure him with emotional and euphoric offers. Recent offer: Tasci gets a guaranteed starting place in Turkey's A-team. And Tasci falters: As a little child he dreamt that he would be a national team player for Turkey.
"He alone has to decide for whom he wants to play", says Ferber. "As soon as he is ready, we will talk with both federations." The personal perpective for Serdar Tasci is all that matters. Another battle like the Sahin-case shall be avoided.
At the moment, the German football federation (DFB) seems to be up front. U21 coach Dieter Eilts has nominated Tasci for the next two EURO-qualification matches against England in October. And Tasci will play.

ah no no no no no!
I think he'll play for Germany. :nod
I'm so sick of this "stealing" that some countries do. It's not right that they are born here, grow up here, learn football here and if the player is half turkish (half german) or so they go for him. Its like we do all the dirty work and they get them for free. There should be a rule or something. its really pissing me off. Most times parents have big influence on this too. But i think Tasci wants to play for Germany.
Wasnt there a rule someday that if a player played for the U21 he can't play for another country?

I hope that Serdar knows that they will let him play one time and that's it. They just want to "steal" him so that the DFB cannot cap him.
Please Serdar - play for Germany! You have a FUTURE in our national team :)

I have the impression that talents who are considered germans (who will play for germany), have better chance of making it in the BL than foreigners or "germans" who will play for another country.

I think there is such a rule. And he is recently being called to the U21, but still, he hasnt played yet. He can only play for Germany after 1 cap in the U21 squad.
Same applied to Boateng, Castro

It's his decision.
Germany is a big country, if he decides to play for Turkey, another one will take his spot.

that was the "old" rule. He could still change the country however.
As soon as he is called up and plays for Germany's A-team, he will be capped forever. OR he plays for Germany's U21 AND becomes/is older than 21. Then he is also capped. But he could theoretically play for Germany's U21 now (he is only 19 years old now) and then change to Turkey's A-team.
It's complicated I know. :ninja
I hope Serdar stays with Germany.

One player doesn´t make a team...If you look at turkish footy the league is filled with players from Germany, they actually dominate several clubs.

maybe a bit of hope:
This is an interview Tasci gave to a turkish reporter:
Uzun vadede hedefiniz nedir?
Taşçı: İlk planda VfB Stuttgart’ta devamlı ilk onbirde oynamak istiyorum. Uzun süreli hedefim ise Alman A Milli Takımı’nın formasını giymek.
He says there that it is his aim to get a starting place in Stuttgart and afterwards get an invitation of the German national team.

Tasci's long-term objective is of course the A-national team. However, Tasci leaves a backdoor open because of the ongoing poaching of the Turkish federation. "In case I don't see a perspective in the German A-national team in the long run, I have to see what happens with Turkey"

Zweikampf - Mit Serdar Tasci (19, VfB Stuttgart)
Kicker-Sportmagazin 09. Oktober 2006

German or turkish National anthem?
I know the turkish anthem by heart, the German to a large extend too. My parents are Turks, but I was born and grew up here, I go to school and I feel well. That's why I will accept the German citizenship and play for the DFB-Juniors.
EURO 2008 or WC 2010?
Both, if possible. At the moment I play for the U20. Time will be short until the A-National team and the EURO.

wohooo he plays for Germany! :clap

Serdar Tasci: Doch, doch. Ich musste die Achillessehne schonen. Die Entscheidung für den DFB steht. Daran ändert sich nichts mehr.
Mr. Tasci, you canceled the German U20 appointment. You didn't play for three matches. Can the turkish federation hope again? Don't you come together with the German federation?
Serdar Tasci: Sure! I had to rest my harmstring. My decision for the DFB is certain. And that won't change.

Tasci seems like a very different character than chihi. But of course we will have to wait - until next year when he will play with the German U21 in the EURO qualification. As soon as he played a minute there, he will be lost forever for Turkey...

absolutely! Dumb behaviour from Eilts...
but I believe Tasci. Remember guys, Chihi is probably the exception - not the rule! Serdar is a confident young man, he knows what he wants and he knows that he really has a chance to get into the German national team soon. I could imagine that Löw will nominate him for the February match against Switzerland (he said that he wanted to test a bunch of new guys there and give the regular players a rest)

But it's amazing how he plays. Everytime i see him he impresses me more. He acts like he's 10 years experience! Hope he isn't just another "talent", judging by his current performances he's definitely more than that!

I even think he´s a bit more talented than Per. And this has to say a lot cuz I rate Per as one of the best defenders yet despite his young age.
Serdar and Per together as Germany´s CB´s in Euro 08 this would be a dream, aww :bowing

Exactly! He playes like a 28-year old defender...And the good thing about him is that he can play every position in defence - that makes him even more interesting regarding the national team...

Let's not get carried away here.
He did not play well at RB v BMG.
He's only played in the Bundesliga since August-give him some time before we talk about him in NT terms.
Look at Helmes-played a few great games in the 2.liga and has been injured since.
What will he be like when he returns ?
Azaough looked a really good player at Mainz in the 2.liga and since his bad injuries- has not looked the same player

I guess the need to play for the German national team should come as an urge from the player himself.. not as a trap from the coach set for the player!! If Serdar doesn't want to play for Germany then the hell with him.. good bye! If wants to, then he'll have to wait for his turn.. it's not a race U see?

Did I say it's a race? Have a look at our best defenders. There's Mertesacker - our best CB. And then there's nothing apart from Arne Friedrich, because Manuel Friedrich has lost his form and Metzelder will need time to adapt again...as a rightback we only have Fritz (I see Arne Friedrich as a CB - it suits him more). And then look at young Tasci and how he plays. He belongs for me currently (I hope that he can keep his form) to the best German defenders despite his age. I wouldn't have a problem with nominating him for the friendly in February - NOT because he would be capped, but because he could really help our team in case M. Friedrich and Metzelder are still out of form/injured or whatever.

Interview with Serdar Tasci - Stuttgarter Nachrichten, 16th December 2006
(I've translated the part where he speaks about the national team)
Regarding the national team, you could have advanced faster. Turkey lured you with a starting place in their A-team. But you have decided to play for Germany - and the more stony way with the youth teams of the DFB.
Serdar Tasci: The decision was very difficult. It is a decision for the whole life.
What was crucial?
Serdar Tasci: I'm still proud of my Turkish roots. But I was born in Esslingen and grew up in Altbach and I feel very well here.
Let's be honest: In what way did sporting reasons play a role?
Serdar Tasci: It was definitely a reason too that the chances are higher to play in a great tournament with the German national team or even get the title.
You were torn for a long time. Who did in the end convince you to play for the DFB-team?
Serdar Tasci: That was an old acquaintance: Matthias Sammer. He was with us in England for the U21-match. He spoke to me in the plane and convinced me.
And your parents can live with that?
Serdar Tasci: That wasn't a problem. They said: "Boy, this is your decision. No matter what comes out of it, we stand behind you."
Where does your family come from?
Serdar Tasci: From Artvin near the black sea. My parents came to Germany 30 years ago, but part of my relatives still live in Turkey.
Can they watch your performances in TV there?
Serdar Tasci: Not every match is broadcast - but I was lucky until now. My two goals against Dortmund and Schalke were broadcast in Turkish television.
Do you get fan-post from Turkey?
Serdar Tasci: Yes. It is still something special when a player plays in a Top-League. Many people there though my decision was correct, some others were sad.
And what do you say to those disappointed turkish fans?
Serdar Tasci: I promise them that I will represent turkey well in the jersey of the German national team. I think of myself as a link to both cultures. That's a nice mission, isn't it?"
