Bremen team probably will be:
Tim Wiese; Clemens Fritz, Per Mertesacker, Naldo, Pierre Wome; Frank Baumann, Torsten Frings, Tim Borowski, Diego; Miroslav Klose, Ivan Klasnić.

:clap :clap :clap 7 germans in the starting eleven....I have high hopes on them:)

This is win or bust for Bremen, I wish them well but anything other than three points here will likely seal their elimination.

Klose is fit?

Schulz will play instead of Wome who has been poor so far-so 8 Germans but probably 7 as Mertesacker is not ready yet.

4-2 to Barca

For the sake of German football i hope the Bremen boys will nick a win here. I know they are capable of winning, but they will have to fight hard and play concentrated (yes i mean you Wiese!) the whole 90min. One mistake and Barca will score.

Interesting Hunt will play beside Klose! Also Mertesacker is in the team! Its his first game after his injury.

Halftime.

Bremen is amazing so far. They control the game and outplayed Barca in lots of scenes. I wonder why they play so good...it must be the many germans in the team!!! (coughhamburgcough )

Anyway, i hope Bremen keeps that up and score somehow. But i see it coming that Barca scores the winning goal...like it always is with german clubs. They play good and lose stil.

9 Germans in Bremen's team-the highest for a German team in Europe since Bayern had 9 in the CL final 1999

I'm watching Bayern-very boring first half

Bayern should get a 0-0 here

both teams dominate the game... a draw on both ends wouldnt be that bad. Would still leave Bremen with a decent chance. What a difference today to struggling Hamburg.

hm 1-1 Bremen - Barca. :( man i hoped for a win but i knew they would score. Werder was amazing though. They outplayed this great Barca team, they were agressive in 1-1 duels and imo deserved to win. oh well at least its not a defeat. but still its annoying that this always happens to bremen, they always get a goal in the last few minutes.

Good one Bayern and also good for poldi! :clap

What can you say? Brilliant Bremen do everything right for 89 minutes and get undone by a piece of absolute genius, only one team in the world could conjure that sort of artistry and that team is Barcelona.

Overall Bremen had guts and great spirit, all players ran with fire in their belly and great individual performances all round. Hunt didn't look out of place at all, very impressed with him. Fritz again showed why he is Germany's premier right back option with another all action performance and Merte in his first game was absolutely solid as a rock. No complaints at all, however when you are up against a club that can bring on Lionel Messi from the bench you are likely to have problems right up until the last seconds. Messi is from another planet and there can be no bad feeling about the equaliser, what a pass from deco, give n go, disguised pass stright off the training ground.

Werder represent everything that is right with German football at the moment, spirit, vitality and offensive thrust as the German NT showed in the summer, well-done lads.

Schaff is one hell of a coach to keep going offensively till the least and it o' so nearly worked.

Yes, a heartbreaker for Bremen --- I feel like they lost even though its a draw. This should motivate the guys and don't say bye as yet. Bremen will still have a chance until the last match day in this group!!

I like how Hunt got the start. Did he play up front with Klose or did Schaaf play 5 in midfield?

Bremen are out-one hell of a group but that's life-reminds me a bit of Dortmund-Madrid a few years ago with the late goal
How did Hunt and Mertesacker play ?
Everytime I see Hunt he looks like he has great technique

Bayern were good-not great to watch.
Lucio was brilliant and Van Bommel is a very good leader it seems.
Van Buyten takes no **** either.
Ottl was good.
Schweini the usual mix of good and bad.
For me though they lack class forwards to have a chance of winning the CL-Makaay and Pizarro are not good enough.

I was surprised how old the Inter team was-I thought they got most of Juve, Milan players etc ?

totally agree with you AL. :nod Especially with this part:

Werder represent everything that is right with German football at the moment, spirit, vitality and offensive thrust as the German NT showed in the summer, well-done lads.

It SO reminded me of the NT! :laugh The running, the fighting the offensive...It was great to look at. :nod soooooo much different than hamburg!

Also its impressive to see the amount of germans playing in the starting 11. simply great that Schaaf trusts his german talents and as you see it works and you can be successful with that. :clap Fritz and Hunt were amazing tonight so was Merte in his FIRST Werder game! I blame noone for this draw because a draw against Barca is still a great result. well done.

I want Bremen to win the Bundesliga so a CL exit might be a good thing

(Should Podolski have gone to Bremen ?)

You watched the wrong game dv, Hunt was absolutely everywhere (started up front with Klose) very good ball control, great pace on the count mainly from the left and pretty damn accurate with his passing long and short. My first good look at him tonight and it just turns out he caused some real problems for the reigning European Champions, bravo.

Again I feel inclined to sing Diego’s praises, he adds a real touch of flair in offensive midfield, tends to showboat a little but great technique, just the sort of player I love to watch.

Baumann and Borowski was also outstanding particularly Borwoski who was really up for the game and very nearly made it two with a cracking left foot shot. Merte simply carried on as if it was the world cup still, didn't put a foot wrong and thoroughly dominant in the air.

Not in this group Timo...How many goals have they scored against Barca and Chelsea? None unless you count the own goal.

They are three points behind the No2 team (Barca) which they will face away with four games left.

For once I'm going to have to side with the ever optimist Timo, :drinkbeer. Bremen have such a lot to offer and they are proving all the time that they can give any team a game. Key to this now of course will be the Chelsea and Barca games in which we'll have to hope Chelsea inflict maximum damage.

Tonight reminded me why I bother to watch football, a wonderful example of both skill and passion from both teams, worlds away from that god-awful Hamburg team.

Assuming Bremen gets 6 points from Levski --- if they get a home win against Chelsea or an away win in the Nou camp they will advance to the 2nd round

Sep 27 2006, 11:37 PM
hehe thats the spirit Al! :drinkbeer

Bremen can hammer Levski sofia on their day and i think they will do that. :nod Its gonna be hard but i won't give up on hope. Sad to see that Bremen got such a hard group.

Valmiki
Sep 27 2006, 11:47 PM
Also remember that Chelsea and Barcelona still have to play each other twice and one of them if not 2 will not get 6 points from those 2 matches.

Werder's next 2 games are against Levski --- first at home then away --- so let's assume they have 7 points after 4 matchdays and Barca and Chelsea draw both encounters --- Chelsea will have 8 points and Barca 6 points.

I should be in the dressing room with Schaaf helping to motivate the guys:drinkbeer :drinkbeer

Bremen are so exciting!

Let me see-Messi comes on as sub and scores-hmm...I wonder where Pekermann is today ?

Werder played well against a club that underestimated them, but Tim Wiese needed to be good. He was.

good game by them

instead of tightening the back after they scored.they tried to contiue to attack lol

hunt was very good and borowoski/frings running it to the box caused problems

I'm rooting for Bremen to go through in this group over Chelsea. :nod.

Unlucky about the result, you deserved the win with the way you defended against Barca but you continued to attack in numbers which left spaces for Deco to weave his magic.

it's all in the blood.

bremen plays football to attack, just like barca

they are two teams with a similar approach to the game, although the tactis n formation might varies a little.

altough i really want bremen to win, a draw against BARCELONA is not a bad result.

That's another debate in itself, but I thought Tevez played very well against Germany in that qtr final. Yes, but I agree Messi should have been used at least as a sub --- but then again Pekermann tried to lock up shop bringing on defenders --- then Klose struck:drinkbeer

Messi is a fabulous talent --- I think his best position would be just behind the 2 strikers but at club Ronaldinho gets that job and for country, Riquelme was the man --- maybe he would be Argentina's new #10

I'd like to raise my hat to Schaaf. It was a boldmove to put Mertesacker fromthe start and for the whole 90 minutes.
Also starting unheralded Christian Schulz and the young Aaron Hunt was a daring tactic that gave Schaaf's team an overwhelmingly national look with nine Germans on the field.
Keep up the good work Thomas!
