I totally agree with almost everything that is said in that post. The atmosphere at some German grounds is amazing, especially at BVB. Think its a little unfair on the English stadiums though.
In England there is less colour, but generally the atmosphere is better than most German stadiums, certainly louder. The exceptions are ManU and Arsenal, whose fans are very quiet, probably due to the high amount of VIP tickets that are sold to "fans" wearing suits.
What is important is that the terraces are close to the pitch like in Dortmund, Schlacke, Lautern etc. The clubs with running tracks don't generally generate a good atmosphere (Berlin, Stuttgart etc.)

BWolf, why do they have no flags and banner in the English stadiums? Why are they not allowed?
IMO, the German stadiums have the best atmosphare from all top leagues if you look at the whole thing :nod Closely followed by England, Spain and Holland/France/Italy.
The choreographies of the fans are great in our stadiums, like BWolf said we have lots of colours and flags. And one other thing which i find VERY important are the standing terraces. I think not every league has them anymore (? though not sure if England still has them) and for the diehard fans its a must to be standing in the "Kurve" singing the songs with the other fans! :drinkbeer :nod

No terraces in England since the Hillsborough disaster where 93 people died. This makes a difference. I have no idea why flags are not allowed, think the police must think they are dangerous.

I would contest that there is a better atmosphere in England. Watching the Middlesbrough Stuttgart game as a comparison, both have medium sized stadiums and both grounds were half full yet the difference in atmosphere was tremendous.
Stuttgart had some madman on one of those megaphones, screaming and getting the crowd going, it actually sounded quite intimidating and the commentator himself remarked at the atmosphere level in German stadiums.
Back in Middlesbrough, you could hear dogs barking and a party of schoolchildren let in free giving their high pitched bellows pre-balls drop, it was shocking, boro fans should be ashamed.
Newcastle fans are by far the best in England and they'd give BVB a run for their money.

Fan culure is the right word. Germans have the best set of fans. Dutch, Ita's, English, Greece etc have the best supporters *nods*

By world you mean Western Europe, or perhaps even the whole Europe, but not the world itself, right?

The atmosphere at Bundesliga games is fantastic.
The Nordkurve in the Franken-Stadion has a brilliant atmosphere, even though there is a track around the pitch.
Having sat at the opposite end to the home fans at Dortmund, they must be the most noisy fans and the atmosphere coming from the sudtribune was awesome.
I have just seen Nurnberg:bowing defeat Koln :clap in the Rheinenergie Stadion and that also had a fantastic atmosphere. The Koln fans were also very noisy in the bars of Koln that night, singing their club anthem even after defeat.
The atmosphere in the UK is often less than in Germany for several reasons.
Many of the grounds are smaller and/or far more expensive. Therefore there are less fans in the stadium. Large flags on poles are not allowed into UK grounds because police fear they would be used as a weapon. UK grounds do not have somebody clinging to the fence, leading the crowd in the singing and chanting. Most importantly, there are no terraces at major grounds in the UK. This makes a massive difference. One of the reasons I travel to Germany to watch 1.FCN is the fact that I can stand on a terrace and watch a match in a great atmosphere (and buy a beer at the same time). In the UK you cannot stand and you cannot drink in view of the pitch. Crazy!
Is it true that when German grounds are made all seater for the World Cup they are staying all seater so next season there are no terraces? I was told this in Koln on Saturday night. I hope this is not true.

Its not true. Don't think the German fans would accept all seater stadiums.

That's good news. It would reduce the atmosphere too much.
